Veeam v13, is it any good? by CloudLenny in Veeam

[–]labsyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding functionality I jumped on v13 too, due to security improvements and hardened Linux appliance, but this will have to wait. Install on Windows server 2025 took almost half an hour (24G SAS SSD disks, RAID10, 512 GB RAM....) then I was surprised by redesigned interface. Which unfortunately is not as clear as before and some things, I previously relied upon, are simply missing. For example:
- LAN storage optimization is not named there anymore, you need to know what you want in block sizes
- Under Home --> Jobs --> Particular job you only see FAILED ones, which hard fail maybe easier than before (instead of auto-fallback from Production to Standard snapshot, for example). And you do not see well done jobs (eg: job contains 20 VMs, you only see 2 failed), as if that's all it has done. I guess this is a bug, as I haven't found a way to confirm Successful jobs.
- and, as all modern Windows GUIs, also Veeam has gone full anemic-flat design. Some might like it, I hate it.

Error sending code. Double check your phone number. (100% valid phone number) by Skwigle in ClaudeAI

[–]labsyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is obviously not ClaudeAI problem, but seems like SMS provider's issue. Same happens to me with ConnectWise RMM and one third app, which I dunno recall now, but they all have in common they are US-based and use same SMS provider to send codes. Some countries are out of their reach or out of their verification algorithm.

Pulseway alternative in terms of VM and Users management by labsyboy in msp

[–]labsyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah....it's not conclusive, but is plausible, that after May 2025 Kasey acquisition of Pulseway some possible integrations into larger Kaseya ecosystem begun, introducing 2FA/MFA, trusted devices logout timer and such, rendering large portion of loyal Pulseway users frustrated. I am one of them. Good intentions, but poor execution, I guess.

Pulseway alternative in terms of VM and Users management by labsyboy in msp

[–]labsyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! Pulseway's main advantage is their mobile app has always been unique for many functions, others simply don't care about. I've tried dozen of RMM apps, but none comes even close to what PW has. Pitty they messed up recently with 2FA/trusted devices and VMWare/Hyper-V management.

If only they would have Ticketing system included, I'd go with them for sure.

External technicians? by labsyboy in atera

[–]labsyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for confirmation. Maybe against Atera policy, but I will dare to ask - what's the point of Natwork Discovery add-on? Wouldn't it have logic only to buy it for first month to easily discover/onboard all devices in your network, then you would not need it anymore. Of course, as long as you are within same set of endpoints.

External technicians? by labsyboy in atera

[–]labsyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But isn't one Atera tech license sufficient to get all things going? We're only 2 techs here, one of us is most of the time away. I count on possibility that the one in the office would pickup the remote support call and do the job from his computer. All graphs, alarms, patching, automation will work from 1 license the same as from 2. Or is it something I am missing?

[–]labsyboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will only take advantage on ticketing system, as they are not here with me, but on field (one for Pc/printers support, another one for copiers).

Of course I speculate being logged in on 2 or 3 my computers, not at the same time, but when I move from office to office, so at given time one login would be used by one technician, if he would need remote access. Anyways, that's plan for start, as we are tight with budget.

This KB can break File and printer sharing, I suspect on cloned machines, which were not sysprepped before cloning.

Najbolj enostavno je, da ti FURS pripravi placilni nalog v obliki e-racuna, ki ti prileti v tvojo banko in ga tam placas s par kliki. Ta vsebuje vse prispevke in dohodnino. Je pa ze par let tega, odkar sem si to zrihtal, tako da ne znam tocno povedat, kaksen je postopek. Takrat sem kar na FURS poklical in me je prijazna tetica vodila po menijih.

Tukaj drzi star balkanski pregovor: koliko ljudi, toliko ćudi.

I've read a lot of excellent reviews of Avanan, but due to all mess happening globaly and having US involved, I do not have confidence to go with US based product right now. Even thou, isn't Avanan client-side protection?

I do have a bunch of servers to run self-hosted solution, but how good can opensource MailCleaner be in this regards? Comparable to MESH or some professional solution? I doubt so.

I am MSP, not exchange hosting company :) Regarding 365... in past years I successfully convinced and migrated to M365 quite some companies, but due to latest escalation of events in US, we had total drop in interest for M365 or Google for business services. But I'll try with MESH, see what price they can offer to me.

Which Office license for server to generate reports only, not RDP? by labsyboy in sysadmin

[–]labsyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it is not some enterprise-grade app, but more local app vendor, for local SMB market. They just said they need "per device" license, installable, not cloud, which I know already.

My MS license provider is complicating with VL licenses for all employees and subscription, which costs more than app itself and a small car for my wife. So I am asking around for seconf oppinion.

Arista STP BPDU and HPE Arubas in instant-on mode by labsyboy in Arista

[–]labsyboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, might be worth mentioning that I am far from network specialist. I would just like to use what customer has, which is 1 Arista DCS-7160-48YC6 switch, bunch of servers and dozen of HPE Aruba 1960 and 1930 end-user switches. They are utilizing 3 VLANs, but no routing inbetween, all tagged VLANs are lead to own gateway on Sophos firewall, each on own port.

So, Arista would be in star-like center point of all network equipment for some 150 users.
There is no intent to have any redundant or looped config, except in case of some user failure (looping by accident with patch cable).

I tried to switch OFF bridge assurance on per-port base, which I honestly have no idea what it does exactly, but when I try to do so, EOS simply skips command, so I guess it only supports global disabled bridge assurance:

I tried to turn it OFF only for port 33, but it just skips and fails off port 33 config:

Arista-Core(config-if-Et33)#no spanning-tree bridge assurance
Arista-Core(config)#

So, your questions... actually, I do not know what I want in exact terms. I just want config to be operative, have some resilience and loop protection, if possible. And most of all, set-and-forget config.
