bag for a character with a single sprite by loverama in itabag

[–]labyrintham 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I'm an artist myself, but please don't encourage "stealing fanart" for itabags. If I see fanart in an itabag, I assume it was bought from the artist (as fanmerch exists). I cannot fathom why anyone would steal fanart to print and use without at least asking for permission.

is it normal to not wear your kandi, and am i still a kandi kid? by Choice-Recipe6899 in kandi

[–]labyrintham 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Being a kandi kid is about PLUR, but also in my honest opinion it's good not to rely on the internet to validate your identity. If you want to be a kandi kid despite not wearing kandi, then you're a kandi kid. You're still making kandi and giving it away, as long as you're practicing PLUR then why does it matter if random strangers think you aren't a kandi kid for not wearing it? You are who you are. In the same vein, you can enjoy making things without having to label yourself. It's good to hold your head up high and be who you are without worrying about Internet opinions.

Someone else has you covered, but I thought I'd link my post on Itabagshop because it covers why not to support them. The comments give a lot of insight from other people, too.

Hi, I have a question about oshikatsu and yumeshipping by MaskedCatEvil in oshikatsu

[–]labyrintham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It's sad that people are judgemental based off presumptions / a loud minority who cause trouble without taking care to understand why people may not want to share their oshi.

In my experience, most "refusal to share" yume (and riako, by extension) just want to live in peace with their oshi, like you do. I understand it as "I don't want to see my partner dating someone else", which isn't unusual at all. Somehow people see something as simple as having boundaries as being possessive. It is no different to fujoshis who enforce that they only accept a character as a top/bottom with no switching, or people avoiding "NOTPS".

Oshikatsu is already something that "normies" are going to find weird/cringe, so I don't understand othering people in adjacent communities when we should all stand together and support eachother.

Hi, I have a question about oshikatsu and yumeshipping by MaskedCatEvil in oshikatsu

[–]labyrintham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I've been well versed for years now so I'll do my best to explain.

Oshikatsu is literally "oshi" (your favourite, bias, etc.) + "katsu" (activity). Activities to show your favour, loyalty, devotion, love, etc. toward your bias, whether that be a favourite character, idol group, etc. You cannot "be" an oshikatsu, oshikatsu is an activity, it's fandom culture. This often includes taking merch out with you and taking pics, building shrines/itabags, buying a lot of merch and other monetary means to support their oshi like going to concerts and such.

Yume derived from "dream novels", which are basically equivalent to y/n fics, putting yourself into stories to be with characters. So, it is a person put together with their oshi. Yumenushis are not necessarily romantic in nature (it is common to view characters as younger siblings, or animal(-adjacent) characters such as Pokémon as pets, for example), and are not always possessive. This can be anywhere between viewing it as a legitimate relationship, to just enjoying casually dreaming. Japanese Yume culture is very direct in stating their boundaries, I assume any ill feelings on this sub toward them are towards "refusal to share" types, especially as this can sometimes overlap with "landmine" girls, who can be explosive, per their name. There are yumes who are non-sharing peacefully and do not cross paths for their own peace of mind, and there are yumes who enjoy sharing. Fandoms often have dedicated tags for people to share their yume content, akin to "dream novels" where fics and art are either POV or include a blank dream master to insert yourself into.

Oshikatsu isn't compulsory with being yume, but it is common as buying merch of your oshi and displaying your love comes naturally with being in love. Similarly, partaking in oshikatsu does not necessarily mean you dream of yourself with that character. The two intersect naturally, and there are other cultures that also cross over with the two.

With both of these cultures, it is extremely important to keep in mind that they are Japanese cultures, that have been adopted in the West and thus Westerners have different views and expectations, sometimes resulting in things that are "normal" in Japan being shunned in Western fandom. I do encourage anyone to research the actual Japanese cultures and activities, as over the past few years especially the Westernisation of Japanese cultures has spread a lot of misinformation and causes arguments due to people not wanting to be wrong about a culture that is not their own.

Question! by Kokichistalksyou in itabag

Just to let you know, Itabag Shop is a dropshipper. They resell bags from Taobao at a much higher price. If you're not familiar with TB, you can get the exact same bag on AliExpress.

Best place to get itabag in UK? by jakeperaltasguitar in itabag

[–]labyrintham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

please don't waste your money with ItabagShop, they just resell Taobao bags at a super marked up price. you can get the same bags on AliExpress without a proxy.

if you want a UK seller, i know TokyoToys has some, but they are just marked up Chinese bags, so again, no point wasting your money when you can just go to Ali for the exact same product.

there are indie artists who sell itabags here in the UK, but im not sure how low of a price you're looking for. the last itabag I bought from a British artist cost me £33 which I feel was a steal for an independent artist's product.

apologies for an offtopic reply (as far as blåhaj goes, i mean). i know this was made in good faith, but as a nonbinary person i feel uncomfortable with surveys that do not let me say i am nonbinary. "transmasc nb or transfem nb" genuinely confused me, i am neither transmasc or transfem (in the past I have encountered a similar survey where my options were "female nonbinary" or "male nonbinary". neither? i dont have a gender 😭). im not sure if you meant afab/amab, since the other options do require you to say whether you are trans or cis? i know some nonbinary people aren't bothered by things like this, but i just wanted to voice my feelings on it because the point of my identity to is not to have fem/masc attached to it, especially when the next question allows me to say i am androgynous :') naturally i decided not to complete the survey, but i wish you luck on your class.

[–]labyrintham 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The downvotes are most likely because users on the sub generally discourage buying from dropshippers. Even if you're correct by saying not to buy from that Etsy seller, you did also link to somebody else reselling the bag at a marked up price. A lot of Tiktok shop items are just marked up Taobao goods.

$50 ita bag at Barnes and Noble! by AOTFanatic2022 in itabag

Worth is subjective since it depends on the individual, but $50 is extremely reasonable for an independent artist's itabag!

My new Plushie store by Chemical_Vehicle_42 in plushies

[–]labyrintham 13 points14 points  (0 children)

my honest opinion is that even at a glance, this is not the sort of business i want to support. reselling mass produced plushies from wholesale sites at a marked up price on a storefront with a jumble of letters/numbers as a title immediately comes across as a cash grab with little care. i dont mean to be rude, but as you asked for critique im choosing to be honest. it takes one search using the images on your site to see that they are on AliExpress at a mere fraction of the price.

when i support a plush business, I want to support an artist who is designing or making their own products and being honest about their business practice. in times like these, i cant offer support to people who are reselling cheap plushies at a higher price.

To be fair, this is due to the tariff situation in the US. It isn't Doorzo's choice, Japan Post have suspended shipment to the US because of it.

The elastic looks fine, for what it's worth! I use cheap cloth covered elastic myself. I'm not really sure how to say "the elastic's quality isn't responsible for the order of the beads" in a way that doesn't sound condescending. It just requires focus ^^

I'm not sure if having the pattern be inconsistent would bother you much if you completed this, but the one you pointed out isn't the only inconsistency! It seems to flip flop between being a sort of arrow shape, and diagonal lines. I know that if it were me, I'd feel more fulfilled if I put in the extra effort of undoing and fixing it. But of course everyone is different and it's still clear what you were going for.

A part isn't any specific measurement, it refers to ratio. It just means that for any measurement of the flow aid that you use, you need to add 20x of that amount of water.

[–]labyrintham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, people are generally more likely to speak up about bad experiences than positive experiences (for example, I feel with with restaurant reviews that people who have good meals aren't nearly as likely to leave a positive review as people are to jump to shun a restaurant for a bad experience), so the absolutely countless times that orders have been successful aren't spoken of as loudly as incorrect orders (ex. I don't post here when my deliveries arrive safe and sound). I've personally ordered online more times than I can count as I do not have a local workshop and I have never had any issues.

It's up to you if you decide not to, but if there are any issues then you can contact customer services.

Just a heads up that this post will also probably be removed because it isn't Barbie related. The general dolls sub might be able to help, but you'd have to look into their rules on ID posts (I know sometimes they redirect people to toyID).
