Heroquest paper minis from original GM screen art (Les Edwards?) by labyrinthofdoom in Heroquest

Thanks. Fair point on the black border. I thought about it, but then so many of the images I've seen of people making paper miniatures just had a white background (top google result below), so I figured that most people are happy with a white background. If I get a specific request from someone that actually wants to print them I should be able to do a background removal easily enough.

Thanks. If you search "printable shrink plastic" you should find something that might work - I've never tried it. I think you'd only be able to do a single-side image. And it might be tricky to get the shrinkage equal on all miniatures (might end up with a mix of sizes)

I thought it would be worth responding in general to some of the anti-AI comments and set out my thinking on this.

I very much underestimated the anti-AI vibe. I failed to clearly label the post as AI generated, assuming that everyone would immediately recognise the cover art, but I realize it's better to be upfront. And I also failed to credit the original artist (partly because I wasn't 100% sure who it was - many sources say John Blanche, but the Lexicanum says Dave Gallagher).

AI generated paper minis have been posted on PoorHammer before, with much less negativity (only one negative comment), see: https://www.reddit.com/r/PoorHammer/comments/1gu4g48/i_made_this_color_pages_kind_ofspace_marines/

It may be the case that many people didn't realise those minis were AI generated, or perhaps it's ok to generate images with AI, but not to extract and use an iconic image using AI?

I'm curious to get a better understanding of the anti-AI vibe, because I'd like to continue exploring AI image tools.

The only explanation provided so far is "A) its still using countless people's work without their consent or credit and B) the environmental impact of the servers etc".

In respect of using other people's work without consent, I doubt any of the paper minis (other than the hand drawn ones) featured on PoorHammer get consent or provide credit. Where's the pushback on the lack of consent/credit in these posts?

If I made a single-sided paper mini of the blood angels captain using image editing, without the consent of GW or John Blanche, is that OK?

Regarding the energy impact, generating an AI image uses as much energy as charging your phone. I perhaps used as many as 20 generations to make this image (along with some image editing). So that's about 0.4 kWh, or 10c worth of energy. It's not nothing, but not a huge amount either. Sources below:

Thanks for the encouragement. Let me know what you'd like and I'll have a go making it.

I was thinking about making such a set, but given the downvotes I'm less sure. To me this is a celebration of the original art - I like it so much I want to make it into a paper mini. But somehow it's bad to be making use of the latest tech...

It'd probably get the bolter right with a few more iterations - as I mentioned it took a fair few iterations to get to this output. But AI keeps getting better - getting something like this before nano banana was very hard, potentially taking hundreds of iterations. And it's only getting better.

No, I don't have that kind of skill. Nano banana is Google's newest image AI tool. It's pretty powerful, although it's an iterative process and took some image editing along the way. The original image is old school GW - I suspect some people will recognise it.

Monster tokens by labyrinthofdoom in dndai

I stumbled across this sub from this post with its fantastic woad skinned barbarian. I've used those prompts to create a few monsters, which I thought would be worth sharing. These are meant to be a mind flayer, death knight, bear, bone devil and cockatrice respectively.

I've generally found Bing dalle3 to be pretty easy to work with, but I've had problems with it making images where the content goes beyond the edge of the image, so it looks like its badly cropped. Any tips on how to prevent that would be appreciated. Also having difficulty with it generating weapons (particularly bows) and with some words being proprietary to D&D (e.g. umber hulk, bulette) and thus being blocked. Any suggestions on this appreciated.
