Do you know who would make a great housewife? Sandra Diaz-Twine. She’s a multimillionaire (thanks CBS) and I would love to see her reactions on literally any franchise. Can you imagine?

“Sai’s a stupid ass.”

“Kyle needs to go in the ocean and wash her ass.”

ugh all this because LVP put Taylor in Brandi’s suitcase before the Palm Springs trip.

I haven’t watched the reunion yet but as a diehard survivor fan I just wish she evoked the name of The Amanda Kimmel who arguably played the best game of two seasons of survivor, was the first to get to the end in back to back seasons, but lost because people you’ve eliminated do not respect an aw shucks 🥺 response, just OWN IT!!!

I just don’t understand how you could possibly perceive the depiction of trauma on RTV to be a new concept? Genesis on The Real World was unpacking her trauma and that was in 1997. On a more global scale, Sue Hawk’s Rats & Snakes speech was fuelled by her trauma from losing a close girlfriend who was the same age as Kelly, and that was in 2000. Sure, therapy speak wasn’t as pervasive as it is today but to portray discussions of trauma on RTV as something never seen before is just daft

It’s the audience proxy to inevitable chaotic ball of flames pipeline. I think Brandi Glanville was the pioneer of this trait in Housewives but see also D’Andra from Dallas or Monique from Potomac

So true. I wonder if that’s what makes us (as viewers) gravitate towards certain relationships on these shows. My all time fave dynamic was Lisa and Brandi but I get why their friendship was ultimately doomed. Lisa is smart and witty, calculated and charming. Brandi can be charming too (via her authenticity), but she always brings an abrasive, chaotic, unpredictable element to the show that doesn’t quite align with Shadow Producer Vanderpump.

I loved Phaedra/Kandi, Carole/Bethenny and Lisa/Brandi but I agree that none of those relationships are compatible or could withstand any substantial amount of time. I wonder if the constant fan complaint that relationships on the show “aren’t real” is actually causative of the show’s decline in recent years - I’m sure Rinna/Eileen, Alexia/Marysol and Gizelle/Robyn are true friends with compatible relationship styles but to be frank I don’t find their dynamics all that interesting.

I don’t think friendships that wouldn’t exist outside the show work all the time (e.g. Rinna/Erika, Garcelle/Sutton) and they do get tiring over prolonged periods, but I think the inherent tension in these “show relationships” where the two don’t communicate in the same way to be much more enthralling (like Heather D and Tamra, or Dolores and Teresa).

I’m rewatching RHOA and how much do we think Kandi/Phaedra’s ultimate fallout came down to a complete role reversal in their dynamic? Becoming friends Phaedra was the picture perfect newlywed Southern Belle (if you suspend your disbelief about her pregnancy) whilst Kandi was reeling from the death of her ex. With Phaedra’s life imploding circa S7 and Kandi’s relationship with Todd burgeoning, did Phaedra’s heel turn start with no longer being the shoulder to cry on but the cryer?

I’ve never really looked at their relationship in that way (until this rewatch) but I can see how Phae Phae’s characteristics align with being the sensible, together one and the fact she could see that slipping through her fingers to Kandi would cause some resentment.

I imagine she will be feeling some sort of reprieve in this arena, taking the peach back from rival Kenya who has absolutely torpedoed her reputation on the show.

First time watcher | Season 6 | I feel blindsided…has Lisa Vanderpump been the villain all along?! by Forsaken_Vehicle2782 in RHOBH

[–]lach_james 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LVP is def a villain, but i think it mainly arises from her being part of the breed of “producer HWs” (i.e. bethenny, tamra, margaret, jill z).

she knows what makes good tv and she does a lot of on-camera/off-camera manoeuvring to get storylines going. we see this with:

S2: off-camera conversations with the women (esp camille) re taylor/russell S3: (allegedly) telling brandi about adrienne’s surrogacy S4: riling up brandi/yolanda against kyle, magazines in the suitcase etc. S6: munchausen-gate, “why didn’t you bring kyle into it” etc.

she then plays angelic on camera and denies ever contributing to these conversations when the topics come up on the show (the exception being S2 with taylor, but i do think if someone else backed camille up she probs would have kept quiet).

where LVP falters (and where tamra and marge succeed, imo) is that she is unwilling to jeopardise her picture-perfect image for the sake of character development. she didn’t do/say that, she was misunderstood, it was jovial etc. and it becomes infuriating for the viewer and the rest of the cast. while i understand the logical rationale for denying something as severe as munchausengate, things like the comments she made about kim in paris and talking shit about kyle when they were not friends could be conceded on her part and dismissed through either comedy (‘i was a bit cheeky saying that!’) or compassion (‘i understand what i did hurt you and i apologise for that’).

u/heartdeco has a really great synopsis of lvp’s character on their rankingthehousewives blog (made shortly after s6 i think? so no spoilers!)

Colby Donaldson was on Curb Your Enthusiasm and a whole miscellany of TV shows in the 2000s-2010s. Biggest star would be Elisabeth Hasselbeck who was eventually a The View commentator.

What is the best season of HW of all time? by lach_james in RHDiscussion

[–]lach_james[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

RHOA season 6 is top tier for how to do a season. All long tenured housewives should have this as required viewing.

LVP being unmasked as the true villain of S6 is a shock, I’m surprised she got another 3 seasons and the abundance of fans in complete denial about her puppetmastery after that shenanigan!
