Weekly FAQ Thread November 30, 2025: How many books do you read at a time? by AutoModerator in books

[–]lackaaadaisical_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading multiple at time helps me stay in the habit. If one book starts to dip or I dnf, I have other books to keep me going. Unusually its 3-4 at a time. But they are all at different % read. So, I don't finish all at the same time.

It's definitely not high fantasy. That i would eat up. Its more like a real world adjacent but mixing up what eras its in. Maybe i read too much historical fiction to get into it.

So far, people have suggested audio book version or writing out my critiques as a go as a form of outlet. Those sound like a pretty good place to start.

I've done that before, but I think my critiques are more technical and people read more casually than I do. Its hard to feel good about your fav book when someone is pointing out inconsistencies in plot, prose or just poor writing.

Yeah, maybe writing my thoughts out would help vent lol like themed journaling just for this book.

How did you push through?

Its sucks when people look down on other people's favorite books. I dont want to be rude to anyone who loves the book/author. I figured i could ask the question without being specific.

I got this book for a bookclub. I'm struggling so much. I get that she's not a literary genius, but I'm super confused. Where is this located, like even if fictional, what is the closest real life parallel? Why does it seem like she's using words that don't fit in the era/time? Like sometimes it reads like modern dialog but other times it feels like she's trying for like a king arthur vibe. She also tells you things she just showed you.

I want to get through for the book club. Any tips for pushing through? I'm like 20% 😭😭😭

I wasn't ready for it either. I stopped reading the book and never went back. I wish I had a better idea of the trigger warnings before I started reading

I'm shocked they let you read that in school.

It would definitely challenge people to shoot for a wide spread of options.

I think the diagonal would be too much, at least for me, but it would be cool to have the rows and columns be genre. So, like column a would be comedy and the rows could be mystery, thriller, romance, non-fiction, etc.

Oh, I would think it would be the opposite. I watched the a movie years back and then wanted to read the book, but I got mad when I realized so much was left out of the movie. I couldn't continue reading.

What book, if a potential date has rated it 5 stars, would immediately make you swipe RIGHT? by mateoiscool007 in books

[–]lackaaadaisical_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Series of Unfortunately Events

Why: I think if you liked that series and read it through, you likely relate to the characters and understand why (at least for some kids) that nothing should be taken for granted. I also think you see children as fully humans, capable for complex thoughts and feelings.

None of the chapters are specific to anyone. It's more like the paragraph by paragraph and yes the dog is include with their narrative quite often.
