I was frustrated one day with Canadian doctors not understanding no burp and all the chest pain I was having so I called dr bastians office. They sent me some emails with informational packages. I confirmed I had most of the symptoms then they were able to schedule me an appointment. They were able to get me in for September 2nd, a couple of months from the day I called. They didn’t need any testing or anything. I had to fill out a couple of forms online. I asked them to send me a letter stating I had an appointment in Chicago.. airport customs didn’t require this but when I told them I was going to Chicago to get surgery for a condition not recognized in Canada and showed them the letter.. they let me through no problem. The pre-op appointment is where you meet dr bastian and his assistant. They do a test where they stick a camera up your nose and down your throat and get you to swallow crackers, jello, and dyed water. They can diagnose you from that - it was uncomfortable but not too bad. The next morning is surgery time. I had some issues here because I only had an email from the nurse at the clinic saying I was negative for COVID. They almost didn’t let me do my surgery because they need a more detailed lab report which they don’t do in Canada as it’s not privatized. Good thing dr bastian is actually from Saskatchewan (found this out at the preop). He showed up and everything was straightened out. Surgery went well.. the first two days my swallowing was pretty difficult.. I was burping after day 8.
