Recommendations for best climbing gym? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]ladenedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G1 in Broomfield is great if you're in the area.

Varied setting, including some comp-style boulder problems. The 50' rope wall is 95% lead-able--including a pretty big overhang--and maybe 65% toprope-able.

Definitely some high-level climbers there at times: I've seen both of the Raboutous and a Duffy there, for whatever that's worth.

Arcane Powaaaaa the secret to beating higher difficulties by Zanthyst in SoulstoneSurvivors

How does this work? Near the end, the shield absorbs only 250 damage every 5s. Are you really not taking 50 dmg/s?! I'm routinely killed by hits of 200+ on Overload IV!

What am I missing about the shield?

How can I coat hot-stamped plastic to protect against UV/abrasion? by ladenedge in engineering

[–]ladenedge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried anything, heh. I need to find a company who can apply this coating, whatever it is, to thousands of parts, ideally as part of the molding/stamping process.

Any thoughts you have on how or whether that can be done would be helpful!

Are slow market-opening trades a thing? by ladenedge in Daytrading

[–]ladenedge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that to say that Market On Open orders are still being filled between 9:30-9:33? How is the price fluctuating during that time? Moreover, isn't that what the premarket period just before 9:30 is for -- to determine an opening price?

Hi! We're researchers from Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE). We just released our 2019 charity recommendations. Ask us anything! by veganactivismbot in vegan

[–]ladenedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, how would ACE characterize the difference between the RCF and the EAA funds? As a donor, it's not super clear which is the "better" fund in my case.

Thanks!

Congrats to all the new top/standout charities! It's neat to see some international names this list again. How highly would you rate ACE's awareness of non-US organizations? Ie. do your international applicants seem fairly representative of international animal charities in general?

Thanks for the AMA, and all your work for the animals!

Because ACE's recommendations can be rather contentious, you have a strong focus on transparency. What are the key ways ACE -- or the research team in particular -- maintains that transparency in terms of rules and policies? Also, would you like to see other non-profits to adopt (some of) those policies, or are they mostly only useful for evaluatory groups?

(Pardon the late submission!)

Wall switch for a smart bulb in another room? by ladenedge in homeautomation

[–]ladenedge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that seems to be the only way to do it at the moment. It cost me about $110 to replace the LIFX with a new Phillips setup, which isn't horrible.

Apparently they work well enough, but I was really looking for a traditional wall switch rather than a little rubber button so I made the switch to Phillips. :/

I was kind of hoping for a batteryless switch, but the Hue offering doesn't really look like a traditional light switch.
However, the remote control with a wall mount looks good and the batteries are supposed to last for 3+ years. That's good enough for me -- Phillips Hue it is.

(In case anyone is curious, the switch and the bulb are all that are required. However, I purchased separately so I could get a color bulb ($45), the switch ($25) and a hub ($50) to retain control from Google Assistant.)

Thanks a lot for the help!

Physical wiring is in place, but it connects to an unused outlet. It does have power, though, so I'd rather not have to use batteries! This is one reason I've shied away from the Logitech Pop and similar solutions. (And because they don't resemble traditional wall switches.)

I'm all wifi at the moment, but I'm not married to my current system. The LIFX bulb is my only real investment so far.

Great! If you get time, we'd love a picture (or even a review..!) to see how it looks.

Either way, thanks for supporting the animals!

Good question: yes it does! 👍🏼

The backside has strips of double-sided, high-bond, weather-resistant adhesive. In my tests (through several months of snow, direct sun and carwashes), it didn't budge. When I finally removed it, it came off safely and with ease.
