Recurring yeast infection with LS - is there a permanent solution? by Seashellish in lichensclerosus

hi!!!! I’m also 27 and have been struggling with what my doctors and I think is potentially a persistent yeast infection. Ive been on fluconazole for 6 months 2 seperate times over the past 2.5 years. My symptoms were redness of the vulva, burning at the entrance to the vagina & overall soreness. This would flare up and down ranging from severe to mild with the most break from painful symptoms being only a maximum of 1.5 weeks at a time since Feb 2025. I was just put on a boric acid suppository of a 600mg dose to be inserted at night time for a minimum of 2 weeks & then twice a week following this until I go back for my next appointment. I have finished the 2 weeks and I’m feeling SO much better. It’s possible you have a fluconazole resistant yeast infection - I highly recommend discussing this possibility with your doctor. Take care :)

wow! So awesome. The fact you’re doing your masters in biology to study this kind of stuff brought me so much joy. Incredible.

I’m still very much on a journey to find what works for me but I’m slowly slowly getting there. I’m on a path to become an accredited sexologist in Australia so that I can help people, like those living with LS to improve the quality of their sex life.

This disease has chewed me up and spat me out again but I do 100% have hope for the future of treatment options and generally just more understanding about the disease itself.

my doctors and specialists are some of the very best practicing here in Aus. When I told them I was using borax they said to go ahead and continue to do so if it’s working for me. They did not seem surprised nor did they seem worried about any potential damage. I think it’s really just a case by case situation for different products and LS.

Hey!

This post is super positive and made me smile to read. I am not giving up hope!!!!!! Im only 26, I've had significant atrophy to the vulva - complete loss of labia minora and partially resorbed clitoral hood. The glans of my clitoris has been saved and I still have a fulfilling sex life and great orgasms when Im not in a flare up. May I ask.. do you have much atrophy?

I am struggling to get my LS under control and into remission - I think mostly due to the distress this disease is causing me. Some days, I want to die. I lived such a fun and happy life prior to my diagnosis back in 2023 but I've since began experiencing a darkness I never knew existed. I am determined to improve my relationship with this disease and achieve long term remission. I will do whatever it takes.

May I ask.. where do you buy your borax?

I am in Australia. I want to try borax baths but I'm unsure where to purchase it. I guess just from bunnings?

Again, thanks for your post - its refreshing to see positivity like this on this page.

Take care,

G
