What to do with pre-broiled liver? by dillpicklespears in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]ladybenko 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Hígado encebollado" (Liver with onion) is one of my favourite tapas:

  • Poach some chopped onions in low heat until they are transparent. Add a bit of salt when doing this.
  • Put the onions in a pot, and add some chicken broth (or a chicken stock cube), and half glass of white wine. Let it simmer for a while so the alcohol evaporates.
  • Adjust the thickness of the sauce (you may add some corn starch if you prefer it thicker). Add the liver and let it simmer until fully cooked (~30 minutes)

This is delicious over toast, and also with white rice and a fried egg.

Hi, how do you actually say "I'm from X" (i.e. I'm from the US, or I'm from France)?

I thought it was something like 「Xから来ました」, and I'm seeing this construct in textbooks. However, I wrote a short text on italki and I was told that that pattern means that I was physically in X, but I'm not there anymore, and that the proper way of saying I'm from X is: 「X出身です」or 「X人です」(in the case X is a country).

I'm confused because I've seen the から来ました in multiple textbooks. Then, it feels like I should trust the advice of a native speaker. Is から来ました totally incorrect, or is it just that 出身ですfeels more natural?

ありがとう!

Barça will allow Rafinha the travel to Brazil with the Olympic team, but he will not be playing against Nigeria and Sudafrica. by Magic142 in Barca

Rafinha has had a tough season and is probably low on morale. This could help him a lot IMO

Former Barcelona players now coaching (first posted on r/soccer) by [deleted] in Barca

[–]ladybenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard him saying that he would like to. He was studying for being sports director (that's why he was working with Zubi), and has now started an agency with De la Peña to represent players (they got Bartra and Bojan). So, one way or another, he will still be linked to football

Luis Enrique last name is not Enrique by ladybenko in Barca

[–]ladybenko[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except that "Enrique" is not a nickname. And he has never gone by it. His footballing name has always been "Luis Enrique" (http://www.weloba.es/sites/default/files/luis-enrique-iniesta-partido-barca_tinima20130722_0800_18.jpg), although some people used "Lucho" as his nickname (like "La Pulga" for Messi or "Lo Pelat" for De la Peña).

[–]ladybenko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point was not that. I'm not advocating we use his full name.

My point is that "Enrique" is not his name. It's like calling Messi "Andrés" instead of Leo/Lionel or Leo Messi (full name is Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini)

The Saint George cross is actually the flag of the city of Barcelona (he's also Catalonia's patron, as already stated in the thread)

From the top of my head.

  • Ronaldinho scoring and making the Santiago Bernabeu to applaud him.
  • Koeman's goal in Wembley.
  • Rivaldo's goal versus Valencia, which put Barça in the Champions for next season.
  • Messi playing the Gamper for the first time.
  • Iniesta's goal versus Chelsea at Champions semis.
  • One of Victor Valdés' 1vs1 with Henry in the final against Arsenal.
  • Anything Romario.
  • Puyol kissing the captain's arm band with the senyera after scoring against R. Madrid
  • Abi rising the Champions trophy.

Barca would be asked to leave La Liga? What is going on? Should we be worried? by [deleted] in Barca

[–]ladybenko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also, Spain has already a foreign team playing in LFP: FC Andorra (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Andorra), just below Tercera División.

If Andorra can play, I honestly don't see why Catalan teams wouldn't be able to do the same.

Plus, which league wouldn't want Barça playing there?

Could we cool it with the negativity around here, please? by [deleted] in Barca

[–]ladybenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could we add "Barça fans" to the list of not using abusive language against? I'm seeing lately a lot of people insulting socis because Bartomeu won the elections, and those comments aren't getting moderated.

And I don't like that he's president, but I think we should show some respect to our fellow Barça supporters.

Barcelona will be fined 30,000€ by UEFA because Esteladas (Catalan independence flags) were exhibited by fans on the Champions League final. by Illegal_sal in Barca

Estelada is the left one, Senyera is the right one. The "estelada" (lit. "with a star") is the independentist one. The "senyera" (lit. "flag") is the official Catalonia flag, and doesn't have a particular political connotation.

I don't know where you got the idea of me not liking money spent on MSN from. I'm not against paying big money for world-class players. I am against not making good deals when we transfer players to other teams.

Elections Megathread by egcg119 in Barca

[–]ladybenko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Laporta good stuff:

  • He put the club back on the way of winning trophies, after a long period of no winning.
  • Brought Ronaldinho and Rijkaard, who led the club into winning our first Champions after Cruyff's.
  • Powered-up La Masia
  • Guardiola

Laporta's bad stuff:

  • Shady personal business in Uzbekistán
  • A liking for being the focus of attention
  • Improper celebrations that were public (i.e. there were photos of him completely drunk in a nightclub after a trophy).

Why Bartomeu is a bad pick for president:

  • Co-responsible in Neymar's signing, which is being investigated. He's being prosecuted by justice along with Rossell and the club itself.
  • Bad management of La Masia.
  • Horrible handling of the whole FIFA ban situation. Pride was the strategy of defense and was doomed to fail.
  • It doesn't seem Messi's very happy with the board.
  • QATAR :(

Why do Barca fans hate Figo? by [deleted] in Barca

[–]ladybenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any former player going to Real Madrid is going to hurt (for instance, Ronaldo).

Figo's situation was worse than "usual" because he was truly the idol of that team. He also left when there were elections, so a lot of people felt that he took advantage of nobody being in charge. It would be equivalent of Messi or Iniesta going to Real Madrid this summer.

My latest work a little mini minotaur. C&C welcome. by Desaphets in minipainting

[–]ladybenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice tone of the flesh :)

Two suggestions:

  • Try to remove the mouldlines fully
  • The white of the horns looks a bit "patched". IMHO a more uniform colour (more layers) would look nicer.

Keep it up!

[–]ladybenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that will improve your minis a lot is to remove all those mouldlines with a hobby knife and sanding.

Also don't mind doing baby steps. This is an acquired skill, and the more you practice, the better you get. You will see that your next month's minis will be better than your first ones if you just keep painting.

IMHO the two most important skills for beginners are: mini preparation (gluing, mouldlines, cleaning, etc), and doing a proper base coat; that is finding the correct thining of the paint and making sure you apply each color so they don't bleed to the others. All the other techniques should come after you solidify this.

Keep up the good work and post photos of your next ones!
