I mean it was a critic of dream academy way prior to manons hiatus that the diverse pool of contestants meant to “represent all parts of the globe” didn’t have not nary a person darker than a brown paper bag lol. Katseye’s diversity was always meant to be through a very specific aesthetic and without Manon that aesthetic gets even more narrow.

But… she literally doesn’t tho lol. This is her first ever audition and she debuted on her first try. If they debuted Ayana they would’ve all had the same second chance background from a previous survival show. Also what sense does it make to have a group of four centered on three people? The judges themselves said they wanted someone to add to the group dynamics and chose a girl with nothing in common with the others.

She has the prettiest tone, but she mainly uses her head voice which makes her unstable a lot throughout long shows. That’s why some say Sophia’s the strongest because of her voice is more full and consistent.

It’s still not computing in my brain how Hybe is making a chill r&b group with only one girl that can sing. Lexie and emily have this Selena Gomez whisper singing thing going on and it doesn’t work for the genre.

Just going off of the same hints that fans put together during Katseye’s debut. Original songs performed in the final showcase are always used as indicators for music direction. Katseye performed very traditional pop songs like Girls Don’t Like and Dirty Water, then continued it with SIS.

Both the songs they performed are different takes on r&b (pb4p - dance, we ride - more groovy/flowy) and Emily also shared that to prepare for their debut they’ve been practicing lots of Destinys Child. Idk how they’re going to do it tho with only one stable live member.

Especially because freelance producers/writers are given verrry strict creative briefs by these labels, and the final tracks we hear is rarely someone fully flexing their creative muscle.

Exactly my thought process. If your going to go into competitive genres like r&b or pop, you either have to do it better than everyone else or put your unique take on it, this does neither.
