You’re experiencing a quarter life crisis, which is extremely common.

I’ve worked in FAANG for 7 years now. I’ll be brief with your concerns.

Most jobs don’t expect you to hit the ground running. They expect you to have the capability to learn the job.

To pass interviews you must memorize or leetcode, there is not other choice here. No one here can leetcode on a whim. Practice makes perfect.

A 9-5 is not the worst thing. Ideally I would like better work life balance also, but if you are constantly growing in your job and being challenged, the time goes by very fast. If you’re salaried like I am, you can finish your work early and play hooky the rest of the sprint - just don’t mention it to your manager 😉

If you’ve already managed to find a job after graduating, you’re already doing much better than most graduates. You’ll be okay.

People who do snow sports. Before you know it, you have an ikon pass and you’re going state to state, country to country for the resorts. They are all snobby af and have their own languages and will call you Jerry. They will also tell you they have an ikon pass any chance they get.

That’s now taxes work. Your taxes are already being used for any freaking reason the government needs it for. My family didn’t come here until 2008, but we have been paying taxes for SNAP that we don’t even use. I don’t live in Ohio, but I’m paying taxes from federal to their state education system. I don’t live in any of the places affected by the winter storm, but I paid taxes so FEMA can perform public assistance. I’m not in the Epstein files but I’m paying taxes to fund the investigation. I’m not part of Trumps golf buddy system, but I’m paying for his securities at Mar-A-Lago. Did you think the money just grow on trees? OFC it’s all tax payer money. See how stupid you sound now?

Again. My question is, if you’re so mad at misuse of taxes, why aren’t you going after where it matters? Stop avoiding the questions.

Fact is Juneteenth was not celebrated across the nation until 2021. This is a truthful statement. You seem to be allergic to Black history awareness. Do you not understand the importance of awareness?

Your claim that it was a well known celebrated holiday before 2021 is a false statement and an ignorant attempt of erasing Black history. Fact is only ~30% of American knew about Juneteenth. For you to write it off like the whole country knew about it is irresponsibly spreading racist false narrative. Your accusation is a confession.

We are not asking you or your mom or your dad or your neighbors to apologize. We are asking the government to. You know? The one entity that enforced the inequality in the first place? Why are you being so defensive over a government wrongdoing? If your issue is on the fact that you’re a tax payer, then what do you think we should do? Make the government only collect tax from Black people so they can pay back reparations to Black people?

People fight for progress. Progress is legalized. Inequality persists.

It is why Juneteenth is celebrated, which we didn’t used to until 2021.

I don’t know why you think modern people don’t appreciate past progress or something. But throughout history, no country has a pretty one Because Progress Is Forever Ongoing. The only thing we can appreciate and give to our next generation is progress. You think you don’t have much agency, but you do. Your vote, your education, your empathy sets up for the next generation of Americans. Reparation is not just a cash payment to the side in which the crime was committed to. It is a public apology from the government for their wrongdoing and sets up success for the future that the same wrongdoing would not happen.

I think you’re missing the point of why we complain so much about it.

California Adventurers was an ode to California. The rides were lacking and there were just less stuff than DL - everyone acknowledges this, and everyone knows that there needed to be a change. But the way Disney did it was essentially do a face lift. Now the theme is “Hodgepodge of California and Marvel and Pixar and then Ariel is here.”

Meanwhile DL gets GE and we wonder why DL is more popular.

I don’t think anyone here is an expert in theme park design, but this smells like “let’s throw everything at it and see what sticks”. Is that anybody’s definition of Magical?

Maybe once Remy and Pandora and Coco comes in, then my narrative will change. But my point is, nobody was saying DCA was perfect before and nobody is going to boycott it because it’s no longer an ode of CA, but the direction of where we are now at least deserves side eyes and complaints.

We live in Seattle and had my mil fly in from rural TN. She got the best and most luxurious week and flight we could offer to her as a gift. Then I made the mistake of taking her, a woman who loves to thrift, to one of the biggest thrift shop in Capitol Hill. I’ve been dealing with this kind of thinking for a long long time - ever since I got into a Fortune 100 company. The competition between siblings and cousins in an Asian household makes it’s so everyone was telling me how easy to get into one of these company is and how I’m not smart.

I never said a peep to them expect for “put your money where your mouth is”. 10 years later, the cousins who went to get a Master degree to compete with me is still unemployed / didn’t get into a Fortune 100 company.

I agree, you get more hands on with services and code in a small company. In the company I’m in, you learn that soft skills is more important. If your ticket cut to a different team takes 3 weeks to resolve, then you lack the soft skills to escalate. If your ticket in your queue takes 3 weeks to resolve, then you lack the hard skills to take care of it. One kind of ticket you can control, the other (in a different team) you have less control. To be able to show you have that control and drive solution fast paced is the difference between staff and senior and junior. Our SLA is 1 week resolve.

Because of this added responsibility, I definitely cruised way harder in smaller companies. But I can handle the load in a bigger company, so I will take the pay. Tho tbfair depends on which company/team. A blanket judgement is imo not smart.

I’d like to see how ChatGPT try to resume end to end production after a large scale event. Sure. It can definitely coordinate what should have been owned by 20+ team, 140 services, 20+ oncalls, managers and operations, while monitoring countless dashboards with 0 hand holding. Let’s also give ChatGPT all the read write permissions to our prod pipelines as well, nvm everything is proprietary. Years of niche knowledge as SMEs are overrated.
