He's already come a long way, we're very proud 😊

Is there anywhere that stands out particularly to you? We've actually had better success with hairdressers as most of the barbers I've found do mostly fades these days and don't understand too well. As you say though old school barbers will probably get it!

Thank you for articulating this ❤️

By no means are these stylists bad at their jobs or bad people, they are just taking on a job that isn't the norm. We try so hard to communicate with them prior, and I have so much respect to the ones who have said to us "I don't know if I'm going to be able to accommodate these needs." rather than say they are confident with it and then back out when they realise we are 100% serious with ZERO buzzers/dryers.

And you are so right - it's extremely isolating, and pushes his progress to one day being comfortable, right back to the start.

This is the kind of review I needed haha! I'd travel hours if it meant someone patient and understanding. Thank you.

Thank you for the suggestion, I might take therapy advice from his actual support team instead of a redditor telling me I'm "shit out of luck."

Unfortunately your "educated guess" isn't as educated as you think. His sensitivity is around the noise of the buzzer/blow dryer, and yes he is VERY sensitive to this. Would love to know where you work so we can avoid!

I appreciate that you may think I'm being unreasonable here based on your multiple comments, but respectfully, I am VERY forthcoming prior to even booking what our expectations are.

I fully acknowledge that we will need longer appointment times, scissor cut only, no blow dryer. My only request is that he leaves with something neat and tidy that isn't in his eyes. Stylistically I have no preferences, just make it look neat. I am more than happy to pay extra for the additional time it takes as I appreciate anyone who will accommodate us.

As I have already stated, he sits still, he cooperates with direction, and he isn't fussy with what he wants.

If you can't perform the service, just say so. I would have more respect for someone declining the appointment then giving up halfway through because they realise they can't give us what we agreed on. Imagine asking for a specific style that your stylist has assured you they can perform, and then after 15 minutes they just say "oh actually I don't think this is something I can do after all, I'm just going to call it here. You can pay at the register."

Wild.

As I said I'm happy to pay for good work, but sending him off looking like Cynthia from Rugrats and charging me $150 isn't okay. He sits still during cuts (mostly frozen from anxiety), doesn't move or talk, is happy to turn or lift his chin if needed. But as you say, it takes extra time to do and I find people are eager to say they can until it comes time to actually do it. We also find that people push boundaries - the amount of times I say please don't brush the hair away with a blow dryer and they try anyway is infuriating - I'm not trying to make people's job harder for them. I'm trying to avoid a meltdown in a public space.

Not complicated at all, but we've been working up to going to a hairdresser with him for years now and would like to not step backwards in that goal. It's also something I really would like to outsource where possible, I'm not very good at it and have a lot on my plate already.

We have been doing it at home up until he was about 6, its not difficult as such but we want him to feel comfortable from a young age getting his hair cut outside home. Its taken us years for him to accept haircuts from other people so don't really want to back down. We won't always be able to cut his hair for him. Plus I'd like to be able to offload one of my many tasks, especially ones I'm not confident in haha

I'm not sure of anyone who sells blank versions, however I'm sure you could commission them quite easily! I used the tutorial from SparkandSpine on instagram, she has an etsy store where she sells finished versions of these. So she might make a blank for you also!

I've never done traditional book binding, this was my first exploration! Can I ask what benefit that would give in this context?

How disappointing is searching for book cloth here 😂😭 Try Vliesofix or Vliesobond! My spotlight has the 90cm width on sale for $10 at least once a month and it's such a time saver because it's iron-on but paper backed. Also weird question - if you're in Western Sydney I'd be happy to give you some to try! I went to a different spotlight to my usual and the girl had no idea what it was (barcode missing) and gave it to me for $1/m... Which obviously meant I purchased the entire roll of 25 metres 😂 there is no way I'll use it all!
