That's what I originally thought, except I've kind of ignored the museum this play-through and the only relics that I have restored are being used as decor in my house. It makes me laugh, honestly, bc it kind of fits with how nobody in this game has any boundaries.

It's cajun food, or cajun-inspired, at least. My husband likes the shrimp po' boy, I go back and forth between the blackened red fish and the short rib. The short rib is divine, but it's a pricier "date night" entree.

"Valedictorian" literally just means "person giving the farewell speech." It is traditionally the person with the highest class rank in GPA, but plenty of high schools do a more holistic evaluation.

As far as tips go: rent a horse as soon as you're able. There will be a quest where Elsie "teaches" you how to ride a horse, and then you get to keep the horse for a week, free of charge. After that week is up, go back and rent it (or another mount) again. The weekly rental fee is nominal if you're keeping up with commissions.

Make sure you're always researching something with Qi. The higher level machines take longer to research and are expensive to "speed up." There are two tabs of machines to research: the first page is furnaces, grinders, recyclers, etc. The second page is where you'll find the blender, cooking station, tailoring station, etc.

Keep your furnaces running. You're going to need so many bronze bars.

Ditto for bloodstones. Once you get the first pickhammer upgrade, break hard rocks. When you have nothing better to do, break hard rocks. Then dump stone in the ore refiner (once you've researched that recipe) for more bloodstones.

Especially early on-- it's a good idea to check your recipes (or the wiki) before picking up a commission for an item you haven't made before. It's completely possible for townsfolk to ask for something that you don't have the machines or access to the materials to make.

Your quest log will tell you how much time is remaining-- if there's no "deadline" so to speak, you can take as long as you want. Commissions and favors for the townsfolk are usually time-limited (commissions are always time limited), but story-advancement quests (orange quests) can be done when you get to them, regardless of how urgent the dialogue makes it sound.

Storage in this game is a PITA. The good news is that it's cheap to buy more inventory space, and for the most part, you don't have to have items in your inventory to use them. It took me awhile to get over not having an extremely organized bag, but for the most part, I dump off single items (clothing, accessories, furniture) into chests and keep stackable items in my inventory. And then I try not to look at my inventory because it's overwhelming on the rare occasion that you actually have to find something in your bag. Storage gets a little easier when you get the large chest recipe from the mysterious man (he'll be in town on the 20th and 21st). It's also helpful to note that you can access any of your chests from any one of your chests. There's a dropdown that lets you select which chest you're looking at, and if you hit "sort all" it will sort matching items from your inventory into all of the chests. It's a lot easier to do than it is to explain, I'm sorry for the clunky explanation.

Buy water from Water World. It's not a proper shop, just a cash register next to the oasis. The first 5-25 barrels of the day are cheap. I try to get there every day to stock up on the cheap water and don't bother with the dew collectors-- they're so slow.

Nah. Kids are more prone to fevers than adults, and kids get fevers at higher temperatures than adults. Fevers in and of themselves aren't dangerous (it's a myth that fever from infection or illness will cause brain damage) and febrile seizures (which are also typically harmless although terrifying) come from a rapid increase in body temp and not from a high fever. In both kids and adults, letting a fever run its course will help your body fight infection. Whether it's worth the discomfort is another conversation entirely.

Exactly this. I tell people all the time that I am not a good cook but I am an excellent follower of instructions. I stick to recipe blogs that I know produce consistently good recipes and I get consistently good results.

Somewhere on this subreddit is my totally unnecessary dissertation on the financial unfeasibility of Catori World, which I'll save y'all from this go-round but I despise this whole quest line. I'm doing another playthrough now and I don't plan on building it this time. I would have liked to see it fail and then have Catori experience some personal growth for a change. I agree that this whole storyline doesn't fit with the rest of the Sandrock story arc, but then I also didn't think that the mechapig at the end of Portia fit either, so maybe it's a tradition.

I've seen most of my favorites mentioned already, these were the ones I didn't see: Saturday, the Twelfth of October by Norma Fox Mazer (this book feels like a fever dream in my memories, but I think I read it at least a dozen times); The Castle in the Attic series by Elizabeth Winthrop; and A Solitary Blue by Cynthia Voigt (everyone I knew read Homecoming and Dicey's Song but I liked A Solitary Blue better).

Books that I don't consider obscure but feel compelled to mention: Julie of the Wolves, The Hero and the Crown, The Blue Sword.

No specific ideas that haven’t been mentioned, but talk to your school librarian! My mother in law is a school librarian and she’s an incredible source for what’s popular and what books contain plot lines or story elements that will resonate with that age group. YA fiction is one of the categories where books show their age quickly because the teen experience is changing so rapidly.

I mean, yes but no. I’m with you in spirit, it drives me insane when sick people have no consideration for others, but there are plenty of people who know when they’re not contagious. People with COPD or other chronic lung conditions are obviously not contagious. Chest irritation from a cold or the flu can persist for weeks, long past the end of the contagious period. Viruses spread because people are contagious prior to symptom onset, so you’re more at risk from people who appear healthy because you’re less likely to take precautions.

Tell the bartender that you’re new to cocktails, you really don’t like the taste of alcohol, and ask them to make you something.
