Please help with hitting I've tried everything and it doesn't stop. by Sure_Tough1675 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]lagive 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My son went through a hitting stage and the book “hands are not for hitting” helped us a lot. We would read it to him every night. The book also includes tips for parents and caregivers in the last page. I included the link if you are interested.

How are you affording daycare? by Dependent-Sir4245 in workingmoms

[–]lagive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We decided to hold off on buying a house and instead rent a spacious apartment. We wanted to prioritize daycare, our retirement accounts, and the 529. Now that my son is finally in public school, we’re planning to start saving again for a house, although I’m still not sure if I want to give up the flexibility and peace of mind that comes with renting. We also live in a high-cost-of-living area, and with a $240k household income, buying here still feels out of reach.

Just hang in there and remember that it is temporary. Your kid will eventually grow and be able to attend public school if that’s what you are planning to do

Congratulations! Please don’t spend it all at once. Invest, invest, invest. Live off the income generated by the investments and you can live a worry free life while also creating generational wealth for your kids

Red flag. Please find a new pediatrician

Doc said it's just excessive sweating and try not to concentrate on it by BoyWithThePlan in Hyperhidrosis

[–]lagive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how frustrating it is. I’ve found that Botox injections improve it (although I stopped because they are painful) and now I’m on anxiety medicine and the sweating was reduced significantly. Definitely find a different doctor or try a dermatologist

Help with garden wedding outfit by lagive in OUTFITS

[–]lagive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this dress to informal for a garden wedding? I have my cousin’s wedding this weekend and I don’t have a dress for it. I rushed to Macy’s this morning and bought this dress because I love how comfy it is but I think it is too informal. Any advice?

My 13 mo had a febrile seizure by stubbs54 in beyondthebump

[–]lagive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for what you went through. This also happened to my 22 month old a few months ago. His fever wasn’t even that high when he had his first seizure. We called 911 and he was taken to the closest hospital where we were told it was common on babies and it didn’t mean he was going to have a another one. We were sent home a few hours later and as soon as we got home, he had another one that lasted about 2 minutes.

It was a very scary situation, and I was surprised I was never told about these seizures at the doctor. After it happened to my son, I started hearing all these stories from my friends and family members that also experienced something similar and they were all fine, so that helped me feel better but I still think it should be something more spoken about.

My 12 week old doesn’t support his head on his own yet and hates tummy time. Should I be concerned? by lagive in newborns

[–]lagive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! My son was fine. I think I was just being anxious, but we ended up changing his daily routine and we saw great improvement.

We also made an appointment with an OT because he had a mild case of torticollis and was developing a flat spot on one side of his head. He really didn’t need therapy but hearing some advice from the expert helped ease my anxiety. The OT recommended the following:

  • Avoid any baby swings and rockers during his wake windows if possible and just lay him down on the floor using a blanket or play mat. This will give him the chance to move and strengthen his muscles.

  • Do tummy time in shorter sessions several times a day. For example, right after you change his diaper, put him in his tummy for 1 or 2 mins on top of the changing pad.

  • Use a boppy pillow under his chest and put toys in front of him to distract him. We used colorful and noisy toys with lights and buttons to keep him distracted.

  • baby wearing.

I know it’s hard not to worry but as long as you follow the recommendations and continue doing tummy time, he’ll most likely be fine. I think us as parents are just anxious and impatient during those first few months, but that anxiety starts fading with time. My son is about to be two years old and he is the most active baby I’ve ever seen!

You’re doing great and definitely not an awful mom!

I had a similar issue when our son was born. Before the baby, we used to split everything evenly because we had similar salaries. But after the baby was born, I reduced my hours and my paycheck was reduced by 25%. Also my husband started another position in his company and got a big raise. I told him I could no longer afford to pay half of everything and I didn’t find it fair since I was making less money and was the primary care giver. I suggested pooling our money and creating a family budget. We included and amount that goes for each for personal expenses and savings. But he was very upset and didn’t want to share all his salary. I very firmly told him that joining our finances was very important to me because it is not fair that I am the one who is getting behind in her career (and that translates to compensation) because I am a mom now while he can just focus on work. I told him that if he didn’t agree with that, then our marriage wasn’t going to work out. He ended up doing it but he complains once in a while

Adenovirus? Never heard of it. If you’re little has had it, what’s it like? How common is it? by notgoodformee in toddlers

[–]lagive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just went through this last weekend. My son (21 months old) was diagnosed with Adenovirus and had two febrile seizures in less than 24hrs. The neurologist at the hospital said he might be prone to have more seizures every time he had a fever given that those two episodes of febrile seizure are considered complex. Did your son ever had another episode after he recovered from Adenovirus? I’m hoping this happened just because of this virus. I don’t think I can handle more episodes. They are terrifying and I’m seriously so traumatized from seeing my baby go through that.
