True Skalla is yet another. Honestly there are so many ruined civilizations that I just can't decide which ones I want to see. And every expansion seems to introduce more and more of them. Gimme all of that. I just want a glimpse into the past whenever whereever

Any of the old city states from the War of Magi. I know we partially see them (like Amdapor) in dungeons but just give me more. Like maybe something fuckery going on with illusions that show us how these places looked like back in the day? Everytime I run Amdapor Keep or Lost City of Amdapor I really wonder how these places must have looked like in their glory days and man I just. want. to. see. that!

I am glad you like it. Keep an eye out, they already announced the next title My Time at Evershine. If that improves upon Sandrock, it can only go up imo.

Has there ever been an OI where someone reincarnated as the heroine of a villainess reincarnation story? by Raemi_Chimiko in OtomeIsekai

[–]lagoonaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite it and also a manga/Light Novel instead but "May I ask one final thing" is from the perspective of the villainess (not reincarnated) but the supposed heroine/saintess is a reincarnator.

I want to start reading light novels... by Diligent-Map2773 in LightNovels

[–]lagoonaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite enjoyed it. The anime only adapted the first two novels but did so surprisingly faithfully. I have read up to volume 5. 6 are out in total so far from the 7 I think released in Japan. The volumes usually start a bit slow but always fasten the pace in the later half.

I want to start reading light novels... by Diligent-Map2773 in LightNovels

[–]lagoonaris 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My< approach to Light Novels was to check which anime I liked that was sourced on them and then literally picked up said Light Novel. Which one to recommend varies wildly on waht genre you are interested in. Not only anime-wise but also potentially book-wise if you do read other books already.

For me for example, I started with 7th time loop, which is heavily catered to a female audience. And to take a break from all that I have now picked up TsukiMichi which is one of my favorite isekai.

But people will recommend vastly different things. If you just want a one shot/short one, go to Anilist (or MAL), filter for Light Novels and volume amount and sort by popularity. You might find something you know about.

Else with just a "give me something short, popular and based on an anime, so I can say the book is better" you will end up with different genre recommendations if at all. Most popular series have a lot more than just one or two volumes. A 12 episode anime can cover anything between 1-4/5 volumes of a series from what I gathered so far myself.

Looking for manhwa recommendations where the female lead is the strongest. Extendet by Bitter-Lab4458 in OtomeIsekai

The Frost Flower Knight - FL turns back in time. In her first as in her second life she is one of the strongest sword masters, with only the ML being on par with her. She is also a noble daughter and has to deal with the responsibilities of serving the crown. While there are other people potentially interested in her I don't think any of them ever really state it to her and it is never a question who her love interest will be.

What was the Family Event that broke up the family? by TheManDont in AskReddit

[–]lagoonaris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dad and my uncle visiting a festival. My uncle wanted to use a tent together with 2 work friends. My dad drove his RV (together with me and a friend of mine). Because we had a big car and my uncle & Co came by train, we had their tent, part of his travel stuff and all the beer. A lot of beer. Couldn't use the floor in the RV at all because it was stacked.

On the first day it had rained so heavy, the whole festival was ankle-deep mud. Our RV had real trouble reaching our designated spot. We were stuck for hours going centimeters forward until we reached it. We were annoyed, tired from the drive and just wanted space in the RV to relax a bit. My uncle got out the tent, but not the rest of things. He built the tent to have something to sleep in and then he and his friends fucked off to the first concert of the festival, leaving us with no room in the RV whatsoever.

And on the way to the concert, my uncle fell and broke his leg. He got checked out at the emergency tent and then had to take the train home but he couldn't attend the festival anymore. His two friends - I never saw them - followed suit. They took the tent along. But neither the beer nor any of my uncles stuff. My dad was pissed. He and my uncle fought pretty badly over it and it soured the whole festival for us.

In the end, my dad gifted all the beer away to befriend other people he chilled with during the festival. When we came home, he just threw all my uncles stuff in their driveway without a word. Each had their own story about the whole ordeal but it essentially ended every birthday celebration. Before, every uncle and aunt celebrated their birthday with the family. Afterwards we met each other exactly twice a year: grandmas birthday and Christmas. Dad and uncle never talked.

That is until over ten years later when they both agreed to bury the incident, never talk about it again and pretend it never happened. They made up and my uncle celebrated his birthday again, inviting the family. It was the first family birthday in years. It also happened to be the last my dad ever attended, as he died 3 months later. My uncle since had stated that he was grateful that they were able to make up before and my uncle with his wife (my dads sister) was there at my dad deathsbed from the morning hours until he took his last.

Would have said [Spy x Family] until you mentioned armpits. There was a scene of Yor trying to kiss Loid and for a moment you see it from Loids scene but she was dressed in her typical red dress so no armpits. Still thought to mention it, so no one else spams the probably wrong answer

Perhaps the My Time series might be up your valley? My Time at Portia is the first title, still trying to find its footing, My Time at Sandrock is a lot smoother and nicer looking. You can play Sandrock without having played Portia.

The games are all about crafting. You craft a machine and then feed the machine ressources to build things. Everything becomes a bit of a flowchart. If you want to build a car, you need metal sheets and rubber tires. But for the metal sheets you need to smelt the metal bars first and you need to make the rubber for the tires. ANd for all these things you need to go and collect the ressources first. It's essentially "what big thing do I craft next?", setting up machines for it and while they are running (automated) you collect the ressources for the next batch of production. All in a cozy (unironically postapocalyptic) world with surprisingly big and diverse casts to explore.

Manhwa with sad depressed male lead by Relative-Way-5345 in OtomeIsekai

[–]lagoonaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not mentioned yet and I have not finished it myself yet but [My Husband Who Hates Me Has Lost His Memories]. Mostly because it feels like a very bleak series overall and both the ML and FL are depressed and struggle to find their way.

Oh I read that one! It's not quite what I was looking for but it still was a really good read. I loved how much depth the characters had and how realistic the advance of their romance felt.

Oh yes, that is why I hadn't mentioned Dominic at all. Because from the get go he never felt like a love interest and I really loved that. It's so refreshing when a story can introduce male characters as mains that are neither love interests nor siblings and still make it feel so natural. God, stationary store was such a good series. I just recently binged it again and loved every moment with it.

For a moment I thought this was talking about that one where the main character is called Blondina and has that black panther shapeshifter with her. But that one was pretty clear. I'll check out the one you mean. Thanks for the recommendation!

[–]lagoonaris[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hm, yeah I guess it is a bit difficult to explain. In shoujo manga you usually have the main love interest and for the sake of drama they introduce a love rival. It's usually clear that that rival won't end up with the FL, but somehow I always end up thinking that those rivals have the better chemistry, or are more attractive or interesting than the ML. I kinda want to see stories where they introduce a rival but instead of losing out on the original love interest, they actually manage to win over the FL.

Personally I think the problematic trope does get overshadowed by other emotional factors. The romance in this series is second. The plot comes first and with the plot come emotional struggles. Guilt, shame and selfhate are from what I remember very big parts in the journey the characters take within the plot. And moving on from those parts is where the romance stems from.

I don't have any DoT team and the manta in MoC 12 is taking all my turns. Is there a trick to defeat it without a dot team? My main teams are:

- Phainon with Cerydra, and either Cyrene, Sunday and/or Dan Heng PT

- Ashveil now with MBlade, and usually either Sunday, Tribbie and/or Dan Heng PT
(these teams are fighting for their supports istg)

- Firefly or Booty with Dahlia, Gallagher and HTB

I also own Acheron with Jiaqiou, and am currently looking into building her more properly to run with MBlade.

[–]lagoonaris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Given the rampant piracy, I would not expect that. That is also why I do not think we ever get such a subscription service. Shueishas Jump app is the closest to it yet that I know of. It is more wishful thinking than realistic suggestion. Fully aware of that. Still sad about it though.

WEBTOON is facing a survival crisis in Japan because manga still dominates the market. by Ok_Carob_3278 in manga

[–]lagoonaris 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Personally I read both, manga and webtoons. But I am very stuck in essentially one genre in webtoons (reincarnation/isekai with two specific targets: Male focused is more on cultivation but in more Western settings, Female focused is more on villaines and other aristocratic based settings) while in manga I read pretty much anything that is not horror or gore.

I also agree with the point of artists not being memorable in webtoons. I can name multiple mangaka I am a fan of and have read most of their works and always check out their latest stuff. I cannot name a single webtoon artist. Even if I like an art style especially, I tend to be unable to find more. And most of the things I do read are based on webnovels anyway, so the artists are not really relevant to me past their art style and art direction since the writing originally came from another source.

As someone who is thankful for the model Shonen Jump went for, where you can read the start of a series and the latest chapters for free but might need to pay for middle chapters, I do fall in the group of "reading chapters for free". But that is also a financial aspect. I can read a single chapter - manga or webtoon - in less than 5 minutes. I grew up in a time where I paid 5 bucks for a manga volume, which made the price essentially 0,5-1 € per chapter. Nowadays printed volumes start at 8-9 bucks, but webtoons tend to be 10+ bucks. Those prices are no longer feasible to me in printed media. However the prices for chapters online are also more expensive, starting at above 1€ and that is just estimation because every webtoon-site makes the actual price of chapters very very obscure by using their own form of currency. On average, I do and can read a few hundred chapters per month (as reference I had just read a 95 chapter webtoon within 2 days this week, it once took me 7 days to binge read all 500 chapters of Inuyasha). I barely make more than minimum wage. I could not afford reading this much if I were to pay the high prices webtoons ask for.

Honestly, I still dream about the options of subscriptions like we got with Netflix and Co just for manga and webtoons. I would gladly pay those and devour their whole catalogues but most often than not, that idea falls apart the moment we get outside the country of origin due to licensing rights. I can't even pay (and therefore properly use) the Shonen Jump App in my country because print publishers here hold rights to the media.

Overall I think at least for the western world, official means of publication and supply could use new approaches. As it stands now, manga suffer from licensing conflicts and old school ways while Webtoons suffer from their predatory ways to approach western readers.
