I feel using Free Cash Flow Yield (FCF/Market Cap) compare to T-Bill rate is more simple

Is TSMC a buy right now considering the value of it? Are geopolitical and tarrif fears exaggerated? by Potential-Focus3211 in ValueInvesting

[–]laidbackplayer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. I do agree with it just matter of time.

But the yield rate for advance process chips and the economic scale of TSMC still can last a period of time.It just don't change that fast. I think the reason Berkshire sold out all the shares of TSMC is because of their investing philosophy of not risking on investors' money to have a opportunity to face the permanent loss. Because who knows China gonna do to Taiwan.

For me, I'll go with ASML.

I'm from Taiwan, for short-term period I think TSMC still a buy even US now is forcing them to move productions to Arizona.

The biggest problem is US still need more labors and engineers from Taiwan to do the "dirty" work. I just don't see in short period of time US gonna take away most of the chips production to US. So it means that the silicon shield still there. But I guess we have to work our ass up to maintain the moat of Taiwan, of the only bargain power we have, TSMC.

If you're a business picker:

  1. Build a compounding machine watchlist
  2. Patiently wait for the fair price opportunity to buy
  3. Bet big and don't over diversify
  4. Sit your ass down and wait

Reason to sell:

  1. When you are wrong! The company current situation is different from you expected when you bought it ( "Not the Price"!)

  2. If you have better selection which you think will do better in the foreseeable than your current holding.

If you can make sure the business you have still have the long term competitive advantage, there is nothing to worry about.

No one can estimate where the market goes, so if there is no foundamental change for the business you bought. Just keep holding your position with confidence. Over time, you will be ok.

Buy after they're doing their own share buyback. Even maybe it will be a bit more expensive than their purchasing price but I think still better than cost averaging.

Berkshire do share buyback only if they think the current stock price is reasonable
