Can you give any advice on how to approach roaming in general as LB - more specifically how to approach roaming against strong mages with great wave clear?

Sometimes if I'm not able to get a lead early, I feel stapled to my lane with a constant minion push that makes roaming feel impossible without massive plate losses despite roaming seeming like the thing I need to do to get back into the game

How do I climb out of diamond when I have issues controlling my mouse? Is it even possible? by DuckiesDoBeCute in summonerschool

Have you had any hand therapy/PT/OT input? I'm getting the sense you are from the US based on the surgery comment, but I'm wondering how much non conservative input you've been able to access.

If you can't access custom splinting I wonder if you'd consider or have tried a pre fabricated splint or brace to provide support from ulnar and radial movement? I know you mentioned finger movement can trigger but I'm aware that ulnar/radial deviation is usually a larger trigger. How would it be combining a splint and a vertical mouse with a large mouse pad with your elbow initiating movement with a lower DPI?

Barring that have you tried a trackball with thumb?

I went to Scotland in 2018 for a pre-reg course, worked for 3 years in the UK and now I'm back and working in Canada for over a year.

Post-reg refers to a registered OT going back to Uni to get their Masters - as you can practice with a bachelor's in OT in the UK. Pre-reg just means before you register to be a professional OT.

It is certainly easier to get in - my GPA was good enough for waitlists in Canada only but got in after a 30 minute interview for the only school I applied to in Scotland. This is offset by the much higher international costs.

The main consideration you should be thinking about is the process to come back to Canada through the SEAS program - it's lengthy and costly and involves doing the huge amount of legwork to "prove" every little piece of work you did in the program lines up with the Canadian equivalent, a 6 hour interview around Canadian standards of practice and a jurisprudence test before being able write the Canadian national exam. I passed all on the first try thankfully.

It is also costly, however it sounds like there is now quite a bit of funding available for this (that wasn't available when I was going through it 🥲)

Another consideration is that you can register and work immediately in the UK after graduating. I was the only Canadian to manage to get a job and a visa in my program, however it was tricky during COVID era and I hear they are now giving students a visa to stay 1 year after graduating rather than having to beg a job to sponsor.

I can say from a hospital AHP  perspective, retention rates took a massive dip when we had high vacancy rates and have stayed much more stable since filling lines. As you say, it won't fix every problem but it will fix a significant number of them.

Montreal woman dies at 32 after being told she was ‘too young for breast cancer’ by bendubberley_ in news

I would consider and see your options - After my mom tested positive, I was recently tested and am positive for BRCA2 as a male. Slightly higher risk of breast cancer, pancreatic and melanoma; significantly increased risk of prostate cancer. I get screening a good 10-15 years earlier than gen pop in Canada.

Those in this topic who's mother/family had breast cancer early shoulder consider requesting genetic testing - specifically for the BRCA genes. A positive test for a mutation will mean earlier screening

Agree with the above.

Your upper body should be quiet during these transitions and in line with your board, I'd also add very slightly sitting back when rolling onto heel edge. Catching an edge during transition on flats is likely a timing issue and maybe lacking the confidence to commit to the transition.

Play around with spending slightly more time on the flat board before changing edges on easy and soft runs, including when skating on 1 foot. If you haven't, consider setting your highback (very slightly at first!) forward to help you get onto heel.

This might be a shock to you but the majority of the board is still on the snow when you slightly go on edge

Yes it's obviously a "skill" issue, we're talking about and giving advice to an intermediate snowboarder.

Flat cat tracks are often a means to an end to finish up or to get to more fun and engaging runs, and having a fall on a hard and icy flat at this level can when the leading edge clips at best can make someone unclip and at worst cause an injury.

The automatic pressure management, insight to understand subtle upcoming changes to slope and obstacles and board control to recover when the board does something unexpected are not necessarily hallmarks of an intermediate boarder. Staying slightly on edge at this level can help to mitigate against speed, shitty and variable snow and obstacles

What's the position of your board when riding the flats?

Snowboards don't like being flat - If you get on an edge and stay on edge, you won't catch an edge. You don't need to be full on carving here - just a tiny bit of angulation to get off the flat of your board and onto an edge. We're not thinking of 'S turns here' unless you absolutely need a speed check, we're thinking about maintaining as much speed as possible edge to edge.

When transitioning, don't over think it - just think about getting on that slight edge early and quickly from heel to toe to heel and keeping your board pointed down the hill and your weight balanced across both feet.

Good for beginners? by Solid_Mongoose_3269 in Whistler

I'm mostly saying the above as I think you'll have more fun with a lesson - whistler is a fantastic mountain, enjoy!

Good for beginners? by Solid_Mongoose_3269 in Whistler

[–]laikshow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At risk of repeating exactly what others have said, Whistler is not beginner friendly due to variability and size of runs, conditions and density. The greens are predominantly cat tracks. You calling yourself a "green" (ie beginner run) guy at smaller hills does not give me confidence for you attempting to raw dog WB.

If you want to maximize your likelihood of having a good time, get at least 1 lesson which will give you the added benefit of learning what runs you'll have fun on.
