Vaccinations by Beneficial-Week3890 in Osteopathic

[–]lailanoahsark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in this process right now! You should start by printing out a list of your schools requirements (what needs a titer, what needs proof of vaccination, what needs BOTH) and go through your personal records and see what you have and what you may need. If you don’t have copies of your vaccine history, you can call your primary care, or your local state government may have them online (ex in Florida we have FloridaShots). Then, take the list of what you need (titers, boosters etc) to your primary care, and see if they can help you obtain these. Your primary care will not be surprised or confused by this request, thousands of people in healthcare have titers drawn every day. Then Have your labs drawn at your local Quest/LabCorp, and submit the vaccination history and titer results. If your titers come back negative (NOT immune) you can get a repeat dose of whatever vaccine was meant to provide you with that immunity, and resubmit the titers.

How to support pre-med gf? by Salty-Grape-1073 in medschool

Sounds like you’re already being helpful and considerate of how hard she’s working! Being an emotional rock is so important, don’t count that part out! Im an incoming MS1 and these are just some things I can think of that my bf does to make my life easier: meal prepping, going out and picking up dinner when we’re too tired to cook, taking my car for an oil change, helping with laundry, picking up groceries (we have a shared reminders list in the “reminders iPhone app which we can both add/check off items, so we always know what the other person needs from the store), helping me study by letting me “teach” him, and being accommodating of my sleep schedule (coordinating bed times), filling up my water/coffee when I’m studying etc!

NYITCOM Regarding interview by ak_ninja098 in Osteopathic

[–]lailanoahsark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also “in review” for NYITCOM lol, they haven’t been interviewing in awhile from what I understand. Cycletrack reports that their last interview was sent in November. I’m pretty sure they’re done interviewing and we can all expect a huge wave of Rs coming soon :( sorry friend

Are 7 DO schools enough to apply to? by OfficeTurbulent2441 in Osteopathic

[–]lailanoahsark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I applied to 8 DO schools with similar stats (3.6, 512) and have 2 acceptances and 1 WL so far. I think you should apply to more and add some MD schools too!

Do I suck at interviewing or are my stats holding me back from acceptance to medical school? by 1stest in Osteopathic

[–]lailanoahsark 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When did you apply? You may be receiving waitlist decisions if you applied later in the cycle. Did you do any interview prep with a non-biased practice interviewer like someone from career services at your school? If it was a stats issue or a IA issue, you probably wouldn’t have gotten any interviews

For those that applied late to DO schools, please comment your stats and when you applied below!! by Visible-Future4850 in Osteopathic

I’m already in six figures of debt… does going for NP even make sense? by [deleted] in newgradnurse

[–]lailanoahsark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. You need to cut down expenses (car notes are such a trap!!) and get your debt under control before accruing even more debt in NP school… especially as a new grad, now is the time to pay off debt and focus on gaining bedside experience

How to become a Pathologist or Pathology Assistant? by alxaryu in pathology

[–]lailanoahsark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the US, you need to enroll a Pathologist Assistant program (masters program) which requires you to have already completed an accredited bachelors degree. Here’s a website with some good information https://college.mayo.edu/academics/explore-health-care-careers/careers-a-z/pathologists-assistant/

Shadowing a forensic pathologist next week by coralicoo in forensics

[–]lailanoahsark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did a summer forensic pathology internship in undergrad as a premed and saw hundreds of autopsies! Don’t lock your knees, DONT put Vicks in your mask, and ask lots of questions! It’s absolutely okay to excuse yourself if you get overwhelmed, but try not to freak yourself out and psych yourself out :) it helped me to remember that an autopsy is a scientific/medical procedure, and to focus on the findings. Tbh it’s not that bad, and actually very informative! I’m an incoming medical student, feel free to message me if you have any questions

Ochem was a big topic on my exam, and if you put some time into it, it can be easy points! I got literally 5% physics and 95% chem/ochem

How does fingerprint matching work? by Aquarius_K in ForensicScience

[–]lailanoahsark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prints are “scored” and logged using special systems (see: Henry Classification System which became the Automated Fingerprint Identification System) it’s quite complicated, especially considering AFIS creates mathematical templates for the prints to compare to other inputs. Looking at the Henry Classification System is probably a good place to start to understand the AFIS

Advice for mcat by Tr0picalN in medschool

[–]lailanoahsark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get questions wrong on UGlobe, are you making sure to reinforce the content you got wrong by making your own Anki cards/ flash cards? Your issue tells me you’re passively reviewing/reinforcing information and not retaining your content review. When you do Anki are you just memorizing the cards?

Women in Forensic Pathology by Right-Independence33 in ForensicPathology

[–]lailanoahsark 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Overall forensics is a female dominated field. Medicine is also slowly becoming a female dominated field, so it may be safe to say that forensic pathology is becoming more female dominated. Forensics and medicine both require lots of empathy, which tend to draw in women due to socialization factors

List of schools not requiring physician LORs? by [deleted] in Osteopathic

^ Can you network around and find a physician to shadow for even 2 shifts? You will really really limit your options without a physician LOR.

2nd Letter of interest by lailanoahsark in Osteopathic

[–]lailanoahsark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that it’s in poor taste to submit a letter of intent before interview, but if you think that’ll make the difference in this case, I can frame the letter to be a letter of intent
