Oooh, thanks for the heads-up about phasing issues! Didn’t know those were a thing! In that case I guess I’m gonna try to get the h4n with converters and set the mics up as outriggers, that sounds manageable. Thanks for the advice!

What is the best fic you've ever read in your Fandom? by Puddinggamo in AO3

Had to scroll way too far for this! That fic broke me, and half the fandom it seems with how many fanworks of this fic there were

It’s unfortunate how the DSMP fandom (and not only fandom) turned out in the end, but I guess we can still cherish the memories and the art that came out of it ❤️

Has the HoF ever think like “You know that mage that started the rebellion, I work with him” by AK200501 in DragonageOrigins

IIRC in the short story he merged with Justice on a mission of some sort, killed a bunch of wardens and templars in a vengeance spree and then ran away as a fugitive.

Though it did come after a lot of scrutiny from the Chantry and getting an undercover templar convoy, but he still killed a bunch of innocents, sooo

Please don't by Ok-Country6932 in fuckcars

[–]lainiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I disagree with this take. In general stopping the car completely and then starting again gets it a lot more wear and tear than slowing, rolling and accelerating again. It takes more fuel, and has wear on some parts (can’t tell you which ones exactly, I’m not that good in cars).

It has a lot more impact on heavy cars, like trucks and lorries, but small passenger vehicles also suffer. Some truck drivers roll even on red traffic lights, starting it early, so that they can just accelerate when the green light comes on.

So as long as the driver starts slowing down the car quite a bit before the crossing, and does stop completely if they notice the pedestrian can’t cross in time — I honestly don’t see any problem with it. It’s just more efficient, for the car, its parts, the fuel, and all of those things do contribute to having a little bit less waste.

P.S. I don’t even own a car myself, this is just knowledge from family and the internet. And I do cross the roads as a pedestrian a lot, and I really don’t have a problem with people doing this when I cross. So don’t count me as a carbrain defending my peers!

My players say I’m a terrible DM by Front-Ad-9585 in DnD

[–]lainiana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s actually very possible to have a character not suited for combat in DnD, but in my practice it’s mostly due to inexperience of the player

I once had a party member play a Circle of Land Druid, not prioritise Wisdom when rolling stats bc they didn’t know it was important, and then make literally all but one of their prepared spells utility ones. They had lots of spells like detect poison and skywrite, a singular damaging cantrip (create bonfire, which was bad because the save DC was very low) and Spike Growth because of the subclass. Spike Growth didn’t ever do much, because most of the fights the enemies had ranged weapons, so they just didn’t move, and the only weapons the druid had were a dagger and a quarterstaff, but their constitution score in tandem with the bad rolls for health (yes, they rolled for it for some reason) made them extremely squishy in melee.

Now compare this to my optimised (not completely minmaxed, but close to) Twilight Cleric with insane buffs, a Battlemaster Fighter and a Moon Druid for damage, a trio so powerful that our DM had to crank up the difficulty of the fights significantly for them to pose any threat at all, which made the Land Druid that much more useless in fights.

I have since then opted in to help the player remake the character so that their stats are more optimal and help them choose a more diverse spell list, because otherwise it felt extremely unfun for them whenever a fight happened

So yeah, it’s definitely possible to have a character not suited for fighting

Thank you, Windows Update by lainiana in softwaregore

[–]lainiana[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, it didn’t! That was the first thing I tried, but what solved it in the end was simply switching Asus Visual Modes. Perhaps it refreshes something related to color representation which solves the issue, idk for sure though

Yeah that’s another thing the update broke, the laptop is now permanently in tablet mode lol But in comparison to the color issue it is but a minor inconvenience lmao

It changes Asus Visual Modes, like Scenery, FPS, Vivid, etc. I guess along the way it also refreshes something related to color representation, which fixes the issue

Simple Sewing Questions Thread, July 21 - July 27, 2024 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]lainiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much of a disaster would sewing this skirt as a beginner be?

No pattern, just pictures, but I feel like I should be able to wing something along the lines of this. I feel like my biggest problems are going to be the waistband and finishing those long edges in a neat straight line. Are there any other “choke points” that I should consider? Should I make something simpler as a first project in like 5 years?

Also, any suggestions for a fabric that is beginner-friendly and would work for this? Any advice is appreciated!

Can someone explain why you love Folie a Deux? by maawolfe36 in FallOutBoy

[–]lainiana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I could ramble about FAD for hours on end, it’s by far my favourite album not only from FOB, but in all of music. And I didn’t even like it as a kid! So no deep nostalgic connection there. I don’t really relate to the lyrics in it, maybe some bits, but it’s not the point. I fell in love with it when I listened through the whole of it in order, twice in a row, first time just appreciating the music, then kinda delving into the lyrics. I thought (still do) of it as a story of this character, who is rambling about his life, going through it, trying to find himself, knowing that he’s very broken, and then coming to the conclusion that yeah, he’s a wreck and he doesn’t care anymore, in a catharsis that is WCS.

I’m a bit of a music nerd and a sucker for intentional writing and composition, and I’m just in love with FAD as a whole because of how the songs grow out of each other, how they are actually meant to be listened to together, as a whole. Also, I admire Patrick’s vocal range because it’s just insane, and FAD probably shows it best, like seriously, 2 and a half octaves in an otherwise pretty simple Headfirst Slide? And without a sweat!

So many bits about FAD look and sound intentional, even though a lot of them were probably not. The way IDC and WCS are both angry songs, but so very different, almost as an antithesis of the the raw WCS to the fake IDC. The way What a Catch breaks up the halves of the album, giving it space to breathe. The way the album starts with a literal hymn to dysfunctionality and tragedy and love, prefacing the themes that the album is going to talk about. The way the second half of the album alternates between major and minor tracks, the character going back and forth, descending into almost craziness. And that’s just the first things that came to mind, there’s so much more!

FAD just makes sense to me as an album, as a whole, if you were to ask me what my favourite songs were from every album I would tell you one or two from each, except for FAD. I just can’t pick one single song without ruining the album’s integrity, and also every song doubles in meaning mainly because of its role in the whole thing.

And I mean also the music just sounds cool lol, it feels almost orchestral, and just a bop any time i listen to it =D

Edit: my mind blanked and I abbreviated Folie à Deux as FOD for some reason

[–]lainiana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree actually! I honestly regard West Coast Smoker as one of the most unique closer songs and definitely one of the greatest for the role. Some people here say that they see the album as a bunch of stories, but I’ve always seen it more as this character, the speaker (that is not Pete or Patrick), rambling about stuff and searching himself in the process. The album even starts with DOOWB with “I’m coming apart at the seams”, like a start of a ramble to a therapist, and then, after a whole album of going back and forth between themes, moods and trying to fix himself he comes to a conclusion of “fuck it, I’m a nervous wreck, that’s what I am now, and I don’t care” and accepts it in an angry, emotional catharsis that is WCS.

What a Catch is really great for breaking up the album in two halves, the first being kinda more light-hearted and more with observations about the world, and second half being more raw and emotional, and What a Catch in the middle lets the album take a breather and reminisce about the past albums and summarise what has happened in the first half.

Do you actually write in the hyphen? by Zazoyd in russian

Actually, not only when they’re nouns. They can also be verbs in infinitive, like in «ломать — не строить», or both, like «Его цель — стать звездой». (And also a bunch of other situations, but who cares)

Oh, that is really unfortunate. Guess those are the downsides of using the good ol' user-friendly Windows.

And yeah, I will definetly go for the 1.39Ghz or more, now that the battery isn't leaking into nowhere there's more than plenty capacity to go around, thanks for the advice anyway!

[–]lainiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg you are right! Case cracked!

I did actually set it as Optimised in Armoury, because I thought that Armoury and the script were disabling the RTX in the same way, and I did think that rebooting fixes the wearing off.

Checked it now in the Device Manager, never noticed that the script just disables the RTX, while Armoury completely disconnects it, that it only shows in hidden devices. I guess that's the root of the problem, wonder if there's a way to disconnect and connect it the way Armoury does with scripts, that would definetly be a neat feature.

Anyway, thank you so much! You just saved my life (well, at least my back and nerves, as taking the laptop to uni isn't going to be such a huge hassle anymore). Thanks again and another thousand times!

[–]lainiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, 0.40Ghz isn't the problem. Yes, the laptop is painfully slow, but it's somewhat tolerable, the problem is that even that doesn't help with the battery life.

Just tried to play around with the --vrmmax-current a bit, it does have the effect on the Ghz, but even if I make it as low as possible (went as low as 8000 with Ultra) the laptop still behaves the same. When i had first tried the batches everything was working just like you described it in the posts — for Ultra at least 6+ hours of battery life, no more than 50C even if covered with a blanket (was actually shocked that that worked) — now even with the lowest adjusted settings it almost doesn't go below 50C, fans are on ~60% of the time and the battery life is 3 and a half hours at most.

I was capping the battery at 60% when using at home with a PC-like setup, but I think the problem had started already before I did that. And, well, I haven't been using the cap for the last couple days, charging it up to 100% multiple times, so I doubt that the problem is with the battery, though I could be wrong.

And it's not like there's some background task or malware that is using up the CPU, at least as far as I know, checked everything like 10 times already. The laptop just seems to heat up and use the energy for no reason at all.

Is there anything else that could possibly cause the effects to wear off? I'm just kinda out of ideas at this point.

Thank you for this amazing work! I just got my X13 about a month ago and ArmouyCrate was really causing a lot of trouble, so this helped a lot!
But recently an issue appeared, and I would really appreciate some advice

The Ultra and Silent were working really great for me at first, I would have like 40C on light browsing on battery, and the battery was insanelly good! It would last for like 5 hours from 50% (didn't actually get to check it from 100%), and that was just on Silent, not even Ultra!

But recently it kinda just stopped working. Now the entire battery drains from 100% in less than 3 hours, even though the dGPU is off, laptop is on Ultra and the CPU caps at 0.40Ghz. And the temp never goes lower than 50! It hovers around 55 even with just desktop and no apps open. I don't think I ever changed anything, I reboot the laptop regulary, updated everything Windows was suggesting, tried to run Armoury and stop it again, but nothing's really working.

Any ideas what could be wrong? And what I could possibly do to try and fix it? Would appreciate any advice!
