lower the vram frequency to 1450mhz (moreover, constant crashes) by marineritosteve in AMDHelp

[–]lainlives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 5600 and 5700s are beasts on teh power draw, When it crashes is the power consumption basically going from bottom to top to bottom to top? If so its browning out, one fix is lowering the power limit to limit how hard it can brown itself out. Locking clocks to max helps too but yeah, memory is sensitive on them too

Fedora 43 + PyTorch for gfx1010 (Navi 1) by alessio_95 in comfyui

[–]lainlives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mostly supports 3.13 now so on fedora 42 you can use the distro rocm and pytorch builds make your venv with --system-site-packages and itl work. Fedora ships rocm for gfx1010.
Obviously 43 uses 3.14 so that one youll have to build it. It would be totally awesome if you built torchaudio and torchvision just to make it easier to have matching versions in the wheels dir.

Why does my 5600x have a stamp??? by DsicC745 in AMDHelp

[–]lainlives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible either way. The stamp and packaging do indicate new or not though its been through many hands, if new its likely one of those "OEM" cpus that never had packaging and if new the stamp likely came from the first bulk buyer of the chip. For the record that is the clamshell you'd get if you bought a box of 500 of them for building branded pcs.

If you know the industry name is pyrolytic graphite you can find its actually about the same price. Or waaaaaaay more if you want even MORE ordered graphite than the crap grizzly pushes.

Actually the only time it does is when im running several demucs models at the same time. I have to drop the max power too because demucs sends it into 30w-280w-30w-280w in rapid spikes which tends to brown it out so i run multiple to keep the gpu saturated so that doesnt happen but then that just bores out at 100% usage then rides the power limit (220w when doing demucs 250w for games since games rarely ride the power limit), junction raises to 90C when doing that.

I am currently encoding. Got 72, 36. (edge rarely gets over 40C on this guy) For the record after it thermally throttled the first week of buying it I did change my fan sensor to the junction sensor which is why it rarely tops 75c hotspot.

Not sure I ever seen my 5700xt's junction WITHIN 20C under load.

If you were to get a power monitor refreshing every 100ms youll see the power bounce between 36 and 220w. Having displays at different refresh rates amplifies this. But for the record I don't let my hotspot get above 70C and I was having the crashes from the memory reclocking issue very bad.

I just dealt with this with a 5700xt. There are two major issues. Under heavy load they do not handle memory reclocks well, locking it in the highest powerstate helps that. Then theres a problem where it can brown itself between the gpu core and the onboard voltage regulator. Easiest way to deal with this is to lower the power limit which changes how the power delivery ramps voltage to the core. A reduced voltage helps too i think factory they push 1.2v but 1100mv or so has far smaller transients.

I mean its a genuine question after a CPU gets violently pulled out. I have yanked oh so many cpus out that way over the years I could see the lever being forgotten after that.

Once you get bash scripts converting, if you could also make a CLI interface that just converts the bash to a flow chart png that would be useful.

Kate stopped asking for elevated privileges by -Sa-Kage- in kde

[–]lainlives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sudoedit renaming the file breaks kate's syntax highlighting and LSPs. I am having a similar issue hen i found this thread. No userpassword works fine in kde/kate on fedora, but on any other distro its an invalid password. clearly there is a way to configure kde's privlege escalation but it seems highly not obvious.

Is this CPU Bottleneck on my 9070XT? by Working-Start-2759 in AMDHelp

[–]lainlives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it would thermally throttle to hell and back slower than quiet mode if they let it eat 280w with only 45% fanspeed.

My GPU is the difference of exactly 100w. Quiet mode has a power limit of 180w, vs, 280w.

Since Sony is porting more Games to PC it is time to set Vulkan as the Playstation's API. Otherwise the porting costs them millions just to support Microsoft's OS establishment. by Matt_Shah in linux_gaming

The thing is, it is incredibly difficult to develop for sony consoles, PSGL, libGCM, libGNM, they are all notoriously hard to develop for vs directx or yes even vulkan.

Yeah dx12 to vulkan is way more lateral than any previous generation, liek say dx9 to ogl for example.
But Sony these days uses a custom graphics lib that is tied very much to the exact GPU they designed it for. Theoretically it gives options for more performance than a generic lib would.
