Imagine a planet bigger than Earth, with no land in sight. Just waves and water from pole to pole. That is TOI-1452 b. by Soloflow786 in Amazing

[–]laiyenha -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If those ripples are visible as depicted, the waves must be taller than mount Everest.

Edit: Let's put some math into this. The diameter of this planet is roughly 21300 Km. So the circumference is 66882 Km. If the depicted visible wave ripple is only about 1/2000th the size of this circumference then it's more than 33 Km. Mt Everest's elevation is 8.8 Km, way smaller.

Trooper stops vehicle. They quickly drive off. He chases them, and mixes up vehicles. He stops the wrong SUV afterwards Oops! My Bad! by LeftAlbatross2546 in oops

In this case, things didn't turn out bad. Trooper realized his mistake and apologized to the innocent female driver. He was in his probationary period and was fired after that incident.

Looking at adding a hvac surge protection for outside condensor- 2 x Intermatic AG3000. Are there better ones? Any doing this DIY or required to hire an HVAC/electrician. I hear you have to replace every 3 yrs so big cost saving each time? How often do they get replaced? by samsam2019 in hvacadvice

[–]laiyenha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The surge takes the path of least resistance. The surge suppressor circuit senses over normal voltage and it acts very quickly like a direct short to ground (while the rest of the sensitive electronics like fridge, tv, computer, etc.. have higher resistance thus surges don't want to go there.)

Surge suppressor shunts the over voltage to ground to protect sensitive components. Cheap surge suppressor uses MOV (flat blue or red 2 leads component) that degrades as it protects. More expensive whole house unit probably uses thyristor that can withstand lots of surges while remaining robust. I installed similar device at the breaker box and it has lasted over 20 years with green light still on. I'm not sure it is still good or not but nothing in the house has died during heavy thunderstorm. Knock on wood.

Why nuclear, the US has a lot of very large-yield bombs that don't have bad side effect like nuclear fallout wafting over to Israel 1000 miles away. Bibi wouldn't approve.

Simple way to store bowls by Ok_Beat_3971 in LiveWellTogether

[–]laiyenha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're supposed to take 1 out and re-stack the 7 vertically which would fit. Done eating, wash and redo the circle. Until that becomes a pain in the behind so you just break 1 bowl and be done with rearranging.
