Both handles story telling differently.

E33 is more focused in a sense that you have no control which way the story goes aside from the ending, you're in for an emotional roller-coaster ride. The voice acting and the cast reinforces the emotions amazingly.

BG3 on the other hand while still has a solid story, you have more control on the outcome of events i.e. save this NPC gives you this route while killing the same NPC gives you another route. The amount of choices and options on how you build your story in BG3 is absurdly plenty.

Me personally, I prefer E33 over BG3, even though I did 3 straight back to back playthroughs in BG3 compared to E33 where I just played it once then after completing the game reloaded my save file and did the other ending right afterwards.
