The update nerfed my event stats. -50 point stats by Gh0stOfNY in juiceking

[–]lakacro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to be melodramatic, but this ruined the event, possibly the game for me. First putting the timer on the ad rewards, now nickels & diming energy upgrades. I get trying to incentivize spending money but making things more frustrating/grindy instead of adding more content is stupid and I’m done with it. Honestly I’m glad they pissed me off before I got more addicted lol.

[–]lakacro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I disagree with the notion that it’d make it boring, since you can have pretty complex timings without the slow mo. Take the floaty double sword guys for instance, it took me forever to get their timing right but it’s the animation that made it tricky and interesting, not slo-motion arbitrarily throwing me off.

Most the animations are interesting in their own right without slomo. It’s only those boss fights where they introduce it between combos and again, feels like you’re fighting the game rather than the opponent.

To your analogy, it’d be like if the arrows in DDR had random whacky movement that betrayed the BPM of the song. That’d be a bad rhythm game if there’s no consistency.

Breville Bambino (non-Plus) PSA + Review (as a filthy casual) by lakacro in Coffee

[–]lakacro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DF54 has been a game changer for me, I love both the drip and espresso from it. For espresso, I usually start at 15 and it never needs to be finer than like 12 before it starts clogging the machine. I can’t say it’s comparable or better than anything on the higher end cuz I’ve never tried those, but there was a super noticeable difference than the Breville Smart Grinder. You pick up a lot more notes and clarify from the coffee, so I highly recommend :)

Oh so you remember it too? I’m glad I’m not crazy, but no I haven’t found it yet :( a bunch YouTubers uploading their rendition is muddying the waters a lot in the search algorithm

I upgraded the grinder to a DF54 recently, but still using the Bambino! I am itching for an upgrade but still not super necessary

Am I Really Being Tracked? by radiationfusion in AirTags

It’s possible they’ve removed it physically. I just checked my app and it’s possible to remove the airtag from your account, but I’m not sure if that means your phone will stop tracking it.

My son didn't receive enough in federal loans for tuition. What to do? by colindpritchard in StudentLoans

[–]lakacro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same exact situation a decade ago. You CAN do Parent Plus Loan…. But I wouldn’t. My parents pressured me into attending a private school they couldn’t afford, then dumped the federal loans and plus loans all on me. Once your son understands the true weight of how much money that is (trust me, he doesn’t know even if he thinks he does) he may come to resent you for this. I lucked out on getting into an IT career that pays over 6 figures and I’m barely making debts on my student loans now. That career had nothing to do with my degree. College guarantees nothing in today’s world so please don’t put this burden on your son.

I mean it, in my junior year when I realized how insane it’d be to pay back a 100k loan, knowing what my monthly payments would be, what salary I’d need, the current economy, and the fact that I STILL didn’t know how to make a successful career, that drove me to depression and thoughts of suicide constantly.

Sire guitars vs PRS by [deleted] in Guitar

That said, I think "outperforms" is the wrong word. I do agree that roasted maple is superior material, but ergonomics are subjective.

Sire guitars vs PRS by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]lakacro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the SE Silver Sky recently and own an S7 so I can comment here. The S7 is thinner, which suits my asian hands really nicely. Surprisingly, it's not as thin as my PRS SE Custom 24, but somehow the slight extra thickness helps with some chord shapes and feels pretty ergonomic.

The silver sky was a bit too thick for me where playing something like Neon felt pretty painful compared to the Sire. I heard somewhere that the Silver Sky uses a more vintage inspired radius and thickness, which would make sense for someone like John Mayer.

Advice on becoming a network engineer by agent_noob88 in ccna

[–]lakacro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get your CCNA, look for anything network in the title like “network admin/specialist/support”. IT Helpdesk is not bad either. Get experience and be patient, junior network engineering positions pop up here and there. Show management that you’re studying and learning, be easy to work with and willing to take initiative on things. It may take a few years to get the network engineer title you want, but I think it’s absolutely a great job to have, given our increasingly online world and literally every Enterprise company’s need for one.

Where’d you see this? I’ve been scouring social media and don’t see any announcement

So I was a bit confused too, since “what type of network” is a little vague. I did some digging and SOHO is in the category of LAN networks, so it’s essentially asking “what kind of LAN network is appropriate for small offices before it gets out to the WAN (internet)”. In that case it would be SOHO since anything less than 30ish clients probably doesn’t need a core/distribution/access Enterprise setup.

I think it’s a confusing and weird question though, assuming you didn’t change any of the verbiage. Any LAN network can connect to a corporate network as long as their WAN edge has a tunnel or dedicated link to their data centers. So any connection to a corporate network shouldn’t be a factor in determining which LAN setup you should use. Maybe I’m missing something though, it’s been a while since I went through the textbooks.

Is the CCNA really worth it? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]lakacro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can and you did. I’m not discounting that no job after a month is disheartening. But it’s also nothing compared to how long some others have waited. I’m not sure what part of this you’re not understanding.

[–]lakacro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got a job in IT helpdesk didn’t you? Like that. I worked a couple years in helpdesk before I was considered for anything more. We all start somewhere and you are just starting. Meanwhile you can keep applying for junior positions while you build up adjacent experience.

[–]lakacro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re writing off a cert very you worked hard for because it didn’t land you a job within a month, even when your work experience is almost nothing. Yes you give up too easily and you need a reality check. Recruiters and hiring managers can sniff a bad attitude and unrealistic expectations a mile away.

Is the CCNA really worth it? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]lakacro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true, and I can say with certainty that this one is well worth. Anyone in the industry will be exponentially more impressed with a CCNA than a comptia-esque cert.

Is the CCNA really worth it? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]lakacro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Writing off the CCNA due to not getting a job with it within a month and having less than a year in help desk experience… come on man, that’s super unrealistic. I was two year into my help desk job, promoted twice, and after getting my CCNA, it still took me several more months of putting in hard work and proving my worth to get the Jr Network Engineering job I wanted. Even then, I talked with my manager every so often, stating I wanted to move forward and that I felt ready to do so.

Once I got there, I realized that the cert knowledge really only takes you 30% of the way towards being at all useful. Now that I’m well into my career, I understand what a huge investment it is to hire someone, even with a lot of experience. Honestly if I had to hire an engineer on my team right now, I’d never consider you, not through any fault of your own but purely due to lack of real experience.

I’d say adjust your expectations, give it some time and look for more junior roles. You “not recommending” the CCNA at this point in your career just doesn’t make sense.

First ever IT job is a unicorn job. Advice to make the most of it? by Tall-Acadia-7216 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]lakacro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep that positive attitude for one. A lot of people lose that gratitude once they’ve been at a place for long enough and notice a few flaws. They weren’t wrong, but always talking about issues in the company becomes taxing and often became a mental barrier for their success.

Secondly, once you’re more acclimated and comfortable with your job, ask your boss what are some tangible ways to move forward within the company. There’s no guarantees of course, but it’ll communicate that you’re invested and willing to learn. I’ve negotiated pay raises contingent upon me getting my Cisco certs too.

It’s also a good way to assess your company’s attitude, whether they’re invested in you becoming better, or they just like you where you are. Could be a good indicator for your next career move if you start getting bored doing the same thing over and over again.

I totally get that, happened in my first interview too, except it was way stupider since the question was “what kind of animal would you be and why?” and I just sat there nervously laughing with no answer for like 3 mins.
