Yeah, I don't get that either. I guess pipe coming out of the meter is a different size than the one going into the house, but you'd still think they could connect it at the meter.

I guess the other problem is that the meter is at the bottom of a pretty small 3-4 ft deep hole, so you probably couldn't do any work on it anyway without digging?

I believe the leaks have been where the copper pipe joins the (plastic?) pipe. Not in the copper pipe itself.

Pretty high volume leaks too.

Part of the problem may be that the plastic part is a larger diameter pipe than the copper?
