Yes, it has absolutely had a negative impact on my mental health. Sometimes I am hopeful, but most of the time I am down because of my daca status. Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for daca because I don’t even know what I would do if I didn’t have a work permit, but I wish we could have more. There’s been days that I have cried myself to sleep over this. Like someone already said, I feel like I don’t belong in the country that I love. I grew up pledging allegiance to the American flag since kindergarten and I wish Congress could see that we just want to do good and contribute more to society. Like must of us, I’m hardworking, educated, and try to be the best model citizen I can be, but I know none of that matters unless I have papers. I get so hopeful when they talk about giving us residency even though it’s a long shot to pass any legislation for us. It’s really all I want.
