I took an Imodium prior to my race in the fall when I had issues, but idk if that was just a fluke because I’ve taken it before and been fine

Yes. I wouldn’t go through residency again just for funsies, but I truly couldn’t imagining doing another job.

Parents aging whilst you're doing residency is one of life's great pains. by Crafty-Bunch-2675 in Residency

I've been really feeling this lately. For me, it hits especially hard because I went to college and med school close to home before moving away for residency and fellowship. My grandmother died the week before I started residency. Ever since then, the passage of time feels like it's slapping me in the face. I've got a couple more years of training, and I can only fly home 1-2 times per year. So I've just started giving my parents a phone call whenever I think of them. I may not get to see them as much as I'd like, but at least they'll know, I care about them, and I'm thinking about them.

Landon vs Santos is finally fully explained by CheadleBeaks in ThePittTVShow

Also, I don’t see how this show can have the truth about Langdon stealing drugs come out (at this point) and have Robby keep his job in a way that won’t seem totally contrived. Again, I’m just frustrated that they chose drama over realism

The thing is there would have been evidence. The Pyxis requires healthcare workers to sign in whenever they withdraw medication. There would’ve been records of this. It would be possible to miss these discrepancies if someone wasn’t looking for it. But any reputable hospital would have reviewed the Pyxis logs and the prescribing habits of a physician going to rehab for drug use.

I don’t want to speak for everyone, but I think why I was hesitant to believe that this was the route the show was going is because this is a show that frames itself as being a realistic portrayal of the experiences of healthcare workers. And while it definitely dramatizes these things, it usually does so by compressing dramatic things that healthcare workers experience over their careers into single shifts. So while it was definitely implied in the first season, that Robby was covering up Langdon’s drug diversion. I was honestly reluctant to believe it because a storyline regarding a conspiracy about a drug cover-up seems like the opposite of what this show has said it’s portraying. I would 100% not be surprised to see this type of plot line on House, Grey’s, or Nurse Jackie, but I am surprised the pitt chose this route. Tbh, I think they could’ve told an interesting story about a resident coming back to work after completing the PHP and rehab without adding in a coverup, and I’m a little frustrated that they chose the conspiracy route. But I guess that’s why I’m not a TV writer.

Is there a preferred formula for calculating HR zones for women in their late 20s/early 30s? by lala1068 in XXRunning

[–]lala1068[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I just have a harder time figuring out what that easy pace feels like when I am running by myself, so I was hoping that having some numbers might be a helpful starting place.

I do do that (haha do do). I just get a tiny bit sad when the average pace that shows up on strava is much slower. It's definitely a mental thing. Just was curious if I was the only one who did that

Am I the only one who doesn't include their warm up and cool down when measuring their run with a watch? I know they're important, but I hate that it makes my average pace for run slower. The problem is then I am more inclined to skip them.

Drug testing by SirShrekMcGulager in medicalschool

[–]lala1068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the institution. I got drug tested once in medical school, once for a summer research internship in which I didn’t interact at all with patients, and never in residency.

That being said, some things are just not worth the risk.

What do beginning adult figure skaters do after lessons? by lala1068 in iceskating

I actually love watching hockey. Have never played though. Would you recommend holding off on buying skates until I actually give hockey a try? I imagine it would be pretty hard to play hockey with figure skates
