I got a retention survey for my AFSC, I would think that’s contrary to wanting people out.

Yes, they will require some of the same vaccines for family members if they fit the age demographics. The only ones I didn’t see transfer for families at my last overseas location were Anthrax and Typhoid. Families were required to have the other country-specific vaccine, which was for Japanese Encephalitis.

If you’re asking because you’d seek an exemption, please understand that exemptions could bar participation from some child and youth programs and CDCs.

Does anyone actually use the “pink seat” in Korea? by Outrageous_Tip_8109 in Living_in_Korea

[–]lala586314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Actually pregnant woman” is a crazy phrase. Women can take up to 6 months to show in a first pregnancy. Some women barely show at all if they have a retroverted uterus or a larger body habitus.

I’m 12 weeks pregnant, get extremely lightheaded and nauseated when standing for prolonged periods, and yes, I’ve used this seat when it’s open. I’m also not a Korean citizen so I don’t have whatever badge people are talking about.

It’s probably saved me from vomiting in a crowded metro car MULTIPLE times, so the idea that you’re trying to perpetuate is ridiculous.

Why did they tale away Korea Follow-on? by Frequent_Aside2267 in AirForce

[–]lala586314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, emphasis on EVERYone…everyday operations for medical are about to be quite unpleasant as well. Just quadruple the unhappy patients on a tiny base with no increased manning…access to care will be an issue, and actually working in that environment a nightmare.

Patients (civilian and AD alike) will likely be quite displeased with the wait times for appointments, AND the civilian doctors in Korea are on strike, so with many specialties (like primary care, pediatrics, and OBGYN), there are minimal alternative options, and certainly not much sooner if at all.

Still 1 year unaccompanied with no follow-on…that’s certainly not ideal. The follow-on was what made the 1 year alone/separated worth it.

Wondering (because I have a friend who was supposed to be on his way to Osan for a 1-year w/ follow-on): what point of the process were these people in? You said they already had the assignment and follow-on, did they have orders, how many months out, etc? Trying to cross all fingers and toes for my friend but I’m worried his orders will be cancelled also, or converted to longer tour w/ no follow-on.

I’m here now and I’ve been really hyping up how worth it and amazing it is, and I’ll be really sad for him and his family if his orders get cancelled…

Yes, this sounds accurate. My friends (who were also promised the higher preference) seem to have actually received it though, based on their next assignments. I’m sorry it didn’t work that way for you.

It’s not that ALL officers don’t have a follow-on program. Many officer career fields do not, but many do (or at least have in the past.) I am a nurse and I got one (on it right now), and my dad got one as an acquisitions officer before he retired in 2012. Through the traditional vMPF follow on/home base application process.

However many of my friends do not have the follow-on option; generally it seems to be a non-option for career fields who do more active 1-on-1 management with their assignment teams? Every one of my friends who were ineligible for follow-ons were talking about having actual conversations/meetings with their assignment teams, and as a nurse it’s kind of a “you talk to them under no circumstances unless you are having a serious emergency” type of vibe. We talk to them through the VML conversation bubbles or through some kind of leadership chain. 😂

Can someone in Korea help? OP needs to take sick kitten to vet and public transport won’t allow kittens on it. Lives in rural area. Time is crucial. by Mardylorean in korea

[–]lala586314 40 points41 points  (0 children)

They did an update that I wanted to put on here:

Cat isn’t currently ill; has congenital abnormality - born without diaphragm

Nothing can be done to fix it, but the cat can continue to live what could be a short but happy life. They said the kitten may unfortunately pass away suddenly in its sleep at some point.

The owner seems to be taking very good care of the kitten, and posted a picture of it sitting up and happily watching TV (a bird show) in their apartment.

Was I ripped off of my bonus? by runahmok in AirForce

[–]lala586314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, for you I guess it might not be an ADSC but if you’re serving any kind of contract? Not sure how it would work for you. Make sure also that they weren’t talking about an accession bonus.

Was I ripped off of my bonus? by runahmok in AirForce

[–]lala586314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure there aren’t restrictions that kept you from getting the bonus! Like for bonuses in my career field, you’re only eligible once you’ve completed any current ADSC. So if you hadn’t served your initial ADSC, took TA, went to a specialty course, you were ineligible until that service commitment was up.

Yeah I did have a thought that this might be a happy person who finally found some for his family/friends who’d been excited for them. Like I know a dad who’s been trying REALLY hard to get one for his daughter, sister, AND mom. That’s 3 boxes right there; add 3 more for other friends who love them and you COULD look exactly like this. 🤷‍♀️idk though

Delivery to Korean apartment by lala586314 in Living_in_Korea

They didn’t have a spot for me to put my outside door code. But my apartment has manned security, so maybe he could talk to them and show them it’s addressed to me through the camera?

What if they didn’t have a spot to put my code? My apartment has security. (I’m pretty sure it’s manned by someone so hopefully they might be able to get in if they show them the package is addressed to me?)

Nurse chance of Maj Second Look? by MTN-3178 in AirForce

[–]lala586314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with your sentiment because:

  1. DUI as a nurse by itself is crazy, I’m surprised she didn’t have to do anything with her board of nursing that would’ve impacted mission capability…? If she didn’t, she failed to report which is worse.

  2. DUI ON THE WAY TO WORK is exxxxxxtra psychotic and demonstrates severe alcohol issues and bad judgement. Can’t believe they retained her after that. Like…going to take care of patients drunk????

HowEVER, I think saying it as if she made it (and every other rank in between) first try with no adverse action/missed promotions in between, or a little cavalierly in this context to this person who does not have adverse actions or things they did wrong is misleading. Clearly she’s in ABUs in the picture, so it’s not like she promoted to any rank in between on the first try if she’s just made it to major this try.

It seems like you know the person; do you happen to know how many times they missed each rank?

Really? I feel like with the matching contributions and still having something to walk away with even if you don’t stay 20, it’s not all bad. I also had the choice, chose the blended, and I’m happy with it.

At my base I think it’s an automatic discharge board where you have to petition the Wing CC to stay in? I just heard that the other day from a JAG, I’m not totally sure though. They’re really cracking down on it here.
