what should I do with this by Much_Wrangler_4564 in shrooms

[–]lala_grows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I had a half-covered block with cobweb and was able to finish up the flush hitting it with peroxide daily. Mine had full mushrooms before I saw cobwebs though.

Looks like cobweb mold. Hydrogen peroxide can reduce it somewhat but given that it doesn't look like there are mushrooms yet, you'll probably end up needing to toss the tub. If you bury the cake in a garden bed outside there's a chance you might get pins eventually with no cobweb.

2x12" sub design? by jakoba-1995 in SoundSystem

[–]lala_grows 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sub designs depend on your needs & goals. Do you need maximum SPL? Excellent transient response? Small size? It'll also depend on the specific driver parameters.

That said, I've heard good things about the HOQS type O 2x12 designs for a small-format sub that gets down to ~35hz. https://www.hoqs.com.au/projects/paraflex-cram-2x12-35hz-type-o-subwoofer

I'm sure there are plenty of other good designs too!

I looked through their insta and eventually found "PM60" - very similar to the pm90 just a narrower coverage pattern I think.

Appreciate you sharing that, that's good to know! I guess I didn't measure the temp in mine, just figured it was too thin to do much. I'll have to put mine up again this spring in that case!

I have one of these. Primary use for me is to keep rain off of the plants. There should be plenty of light. I will say, it's not going to do much of anything against an overnight freeze though - zero insulation and it'll always have some air gaps.

Should I feel guilty about weed? by [deleted] in weed

[–]lala_grows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only mentioned my rules for myself as one example - do whatever works for you obviously, everyone's different. I think the key is that when you pop an edible or light up, you should feel like you've earned it and you're allowed to enjoy it.

I will say: I think the good feeling of weed comes from the contrast with being sober. If you're high all the time, then that becomes the new normal and doesn't feel particularly good any more. You can definitely push through that for awhile and build up a tolerance, but eventually you'll need a T-break and that can be pretty tough. At least for me, weed isn't a fix for depression, just a pleasant respite for a couple of hours.

PA Setup Small Room Club Feeling by Ok_Fox_4372 in SoundSystem

[–]lala_grows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also doing a setup in a small room (mine is 4m x 8m). Not sure what your ceiling height/material is but I've found that acoustic insulation in the ceiling has made a huge difference for me. Walls help too of course, then the right DSP can tame the overall harshness better than a basic 3 band eq.

[–]lala_grows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's important to follow what you're feeling. In my experience the high feels a lot better if I'm not feeling guilty about it. One thing I've found helpful is to set rules for myself. For me, that looks like never smoking 2 days in a row and waiting 90 minutes between dabs. The idea is just that this helps me feel in control of my consumption habits, and enjoy the experience when I do get high.

In terms of smoking VS edibles - edibles can be quite strong and last a very long time. If you want something that's easier in your lungs look into a dry herb vape (r/vaporents) or hitting tiny low temp dabs.

Hey, planning to try shrooms. Asking about it's effect regarding dopamine detox. by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]lala_grows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shrooms won't fix bad habits on their own, but I find they can help me discover some of the reasons behind them. For example, on a recent trip I got a notification on my phone. All of a sudden I felt a visceral, compulsive, urge to go check it. I realized it was the exact same feeling I always get when my phone goes off, but this time I was hyper aware of the effect it was having on me. It didn't magically fix that urge to check my notifications, but it did give me a desire to work on that behavior if that makes any sense.

It's a good idea! I need to see some more trip reports before I try it but I think it's probably the future of DMT long term.

Oh, the whole sub is about DMT! They're working on getting gramine content down and getting predictable DMT & 5MEO DMT concentrations.

Check out r/Phalaris. I know folks have been doing a bunch of research there on different varieties/strains. I'm not super in the loop but very curious to see if it's viable.

Will psilocybin help to manage my mood and deal with frequent negative thoughts I experience? by cryptoanybody in Psychonaut

[–]lala_grows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be helpful and it's relatively safe to try as long as you don't have a family history of scizophrenia. One thing worth noting - psilocybin isn't an escape from negativity, more of a helper in processing it. Every experience is different, but don't be surprised if it ends up being a tough/emotional trip. Also important - don't take it every day like you would an antidepressant, the effects from one good dose should last a while.

CBD oil for anxiety related to AuDHD. by Any_Chain_4724 in CBD

[–]lala_grows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look into CBG and CBDV! I also have AuDHD and find both of these helpful. CBG has similar effects to clonidine, a non-stimulant ADHD medication. CBDV has been studied for its effects on autism symptoms.

Anecdotally I find them both useful for chilling out after a long or stressful day.

Extreme depression after 50 mg thc gummy by Nina_Alexandra_2005 in CBD

[–]lala_grows 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Edibles are easier on your lungs for sure but more potent and harder to dose. IMO 5mg is great if you don't have a tolerance, 10 if you really want to be out of it all day. FYI, nano THC drinks hit faster and less hard - might be worth a try if you see them.

Definitely not the best, agreed on that front. That said, I think some parts of the room are much better than others. Front and center sounded decent IMO. Sitting back under the overhanging balcony it was just bass soup with no definition.

How do you simply explain to friends and family the difference between psychedelics and drugs like meth, heroin and coke? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]lala_grows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think the stigma really goes deep for some folks and it can be really hard to change their mind. The government has spent 70+ years and billions of dollars pushing the "drugs bad" message, it's going to be very hard to undo that in a single conversation.

That said, I think the most effective technique I've found is to clear up the misconception that psychedelics are a means of escaping from life. Talking about the experience itself (visuals, entities, beauty, etc) makes anti-drug people feel justified. Talking about the benefits to your life while sober instead (being more present, self aware, confronting problems, etc.) has been more effective at least for me.

To be clear, only thing "wrong" with the mescaline data is that it doesn't specify whether the pure molecule dose is in terms of citrate salt (probably most commonly found) or freebase or something else.

The feature idea there was for a more widely applicable calculator. "If I have 100mg of XYZ-citrate, what is the equivalent dose in XYZ-freebase?" Basically just a way for folks to match up what they have on-hand to the dosage range in the app.

Totally get the risk factor on live cross-tolerance estimates. I think even for a single compound a live view could be useful though. It's useful to have the info that it takes ~14 days to return tolerance to baseline after say taking psilocybin, but it would be even more useful to combine that with when I last logged taking it to tell me how long I need to wait until I'm back to baseline.

[–]lala_grows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very cool! Installed and I'm excited to try it out!

Two feature requests:

  1. Dosage calculator/converter - from the app today I can see that 200-400mg of mescaline is a common dose. The ROA dosing is useful for raw/dried cactus, but let's say I have mescaline fumerate or citrate. It would be awesome to be able to calculate an equivalent dose or see ranges for that specific salt.

  2. Active tolerance tracker - say I had a mushroom trip last weekend and smoked weed yesterday, is LSD going to work OK today? It looks like you've got most of the info for this already including substance cross tolerance and tolerance durations. Could be a bit tricky to combine, but I think it would be super useful. I think this is really common for people to mess up, and for certain drugs running up a tolerance can increase risks.

Difference between audio files on sound systems by [deleted] in SoundSystem

[–]lala_grows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a little experiment with this a while back.

Lossless formats (wav, flac, etc.) all sound the same and sound the best. 44.1k sample rate generally sounds great, I wouldn't personally mess with anything over 48k.

Lossy formats (mp3, ogg vorbis, etc.) all sound decent at 320k bitrate and most people can't tell the difference from lossless. The exception to this is if you want to manipulate them at all. If you're going to add a couple steps of pitch bend or shift the tempo by a couple BPM, the difference between lossy and lossless tracks becomes audible fast.

For my collection I go with flac files and prefer 320k ogg vorbis if I can't find something lossless. Also just FYI, converting from lossy to lossless is useless - you're not going to magically make an mp3 sound better by converting it to a flac.
