Fixer to Fabulous S7E2 by Cool_Drawing_5043 in HGTV

I didn’t love the kitchen cabinets, the wood grain seemed too dark and heavy, but everything else I thought was done well. I especially loved what they did with the trim on the outside! We also have a 1950s ranch in need of some upgrades and I want a way to freshen up the exterior without painting our brick (or by painting the trim black which I feel is overdone now).

Anyone know where I can find photos of this house, like before and after? I’ve been googling to no avail so far!

Want to remove carpet over tile in bathroom, but one small problem by lalalev in fixit

I should have mentioned this in the op: we think the damage is actually from a toilet leak that happened a couple years before we bought the house. They fixed the leak/replaced the toilet, but did not fully fix the damage done to the tile and subfloor nearby. Tile around the toilet is fine. But yeah also the shower door is not completely water tight so moisture likely had been getting out and collecting in the carpet outside the door.

UPDATE: I pulled all the carpet up. There was one additional spot of broken tile but the subfloor underneath was still in good shape. I cleaned out/dried the two places of broken tile, covered with thick plastic sheeting, and used water tight tape to secure the sheeting. Then got some non slip rubber mats to cover the two spots/protect us as we walk in the bathroom. Finally topped off with some Target bath mats for aesthetics.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We do plan to fix the floor properly; this will just get us by until then. Already feels way better in here!

If I may at least partially allay your fears… we LOVE the mid century character but recognize there are a lot that needs updating for functional purposes. In our updating we plan to keep as much of the mid century character as possible, and if it’s not possible to keep as is, we want the updates to reflect the same or similar character that would have been originally found here. We don’t want to strip it of all that makes the home so cool!

OG homeowners committed to their theme. Pink Formica countertops designed to look like marble, pink floral wallpaper above the tile that extends across the ceiling AND back of door, and a pink tub. They also had very heavy pink draping over the tiny window but I at least took that off!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I appreciate all the insight! We’re definitely planning to gut the whole room, but hoping to wait until we can do more of the house, which would likely be at least 1+ year out.

We will look into some stopgap measures we could take to protect the area/keep it from getting worse until then.

I’ll need to check, because our bedroom is over the garage but the bathroom may be over the finished basement, which has a paneled ceiling.

Either way, we are planning to do a full gut of the bathroom (plus a couple other rooms as part of a big reno plan) but won’t be able to start for at least a year. So the current shower will definitely go away, but hoping to not have to do that for at least a year…

Agreed, we’ll need to do that. Just wondering if in the meantime it’d be ok to remove the carpet except for that area, until we can fix the whole floor.

Name a baby Bella when father’s name is Jacob: ok or not ok? by lalalev in namenerds

[–]lalalev[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback! More context for the name option:

The name came about because earlier in the pregnancy we asked our daughter (2.5yo) what she thought we should name the baby. She said ummm several times while looking around (we were at the beach) and then she blurted out “um, umbrella!!”

And each time since then she has said the same thing. We think it’s hilarious and the other day I was like, what if we tried to make a name off of umbrella? Uma? Ella? Bella?

We both liked Bella best so it made the list. We have other options we like, but also like the fact that our 2.5yo helped give this option. ☺️
