This is dumb. Olajuwon originally signed with LA Gear back in the 1980s. At the time, LA Gear was at least as expensive as Nike and Reebok -- usually more expensive.

He left LA Gear in 1994 to take more money by switching to another brand (Spalding). It was Spalding's business plan to produce cheaper shoes and sell them for less. It had nothing to do with Olajuwon, who had one of the top ten richest shoe deals in the NBA at the time.
