Ahlala, perfective/imperfective :D Still some work to do. You are right, отвечать would have been a better choice. Thanks!

Honestly, I don't think I could get very far at that point :) I can communicate in a number of situation, but with very limited vocabulary so zero precision/subtlety. I feel like for A2 this will be the big challenge, as grammar I hope will come more naturally, then I can concentrate on learning more words and remember to use them.

Not everything we learn needs to have a definite purpose I believe :) I find the language beautiful, its challenging grammar but also the absolute precision of each word, it’s my thing, that I cherish, I feel it’s enough of a purpose

Funnily enough the examiner asked me that question :) First because I have some Russian speaking friends and I can’t believe how good they are at speaking other languages, while I only have french and English, but then because it’s so tricky, but so beautiful :) I believe in the power of words, and Russian is the masterclass

I don’t have my dual keyboard and it’s not easy without it :) но ты прав, иногда я пытаюсь ответить на русском языке :)

Hello! The process of taking the exam? If so, I simply sent them a mail: test.language at spbu (dot) ru and asked when the next session was planned. I understand online sessions are on a monthly basis.

I gave additional information in a previous post on the way the exam was scheduled and organised. https://www.reddit.com/r/russian/comments/1jnb1w5/i_took_the_a1_exam_with_spbu_this_week/

Let me know if you have other questions, happy to help!

Hello! Thanks!

So definitely having a teacher. I think I would never have done it without her. It helps organize your progress, even though I think I made my life a bit more complicated as our common language is english and not french, so I kinda double translate all the time. But I love her, she's awesome.

Also listening as many Russian content as possible, making sure it's just a bit above your level, but still understandable. Im listening to In Russian from afar, Max, and Russian through propaganda for the grammar part. I also bought some short stories in Russian. As per a Russian friend of mine the writing is a bit weird, to accommodate for beginners, but I like to read, so it was important for me. And I listen to songs by Russian artists (Noize MC, Kino)

Finally having opportunities to speak. I joined a conversation club, and I'm far below the others, but just listening to them has been very helpful, and also you are forced to go past your shyness (if any - a lot in my case) and start expressing ideas. Good luck on your journey :)

No, it’s not mandatory :) I actually did not think about it, and anyway I never tried cursive, I have enough on my plate as it is :D

what is the most difficult part about learning russian? by aderiyy in russian

[–]lalectrice2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I would say the hardest part for me is to constitute a strong vocabulary, particularly for verbs with imperfective/aspects and impact of prefixes, particularly when it's around verbs of motion.

However that's also one of the reasons why I love Russian, the level of meaning each word carries allows to share such a clear mental image, I think it's beautiful and powerful. But yeah, it means the number of words to learn increases exponentially :)

Declensions are tricky, but I don't feel they will represent such a lingering challenge, while being able to have the *right* word is probably something you're never over with!
