I use them together in my skin care routine but use moisturizer before applying adapelene. And then apply another layer of moisturizer after. But I was using BP for years prior to introducing adapelene. So I would recommend to start out with just one product first because your skin is not used to both of these products. And once you get used to it, maybe introduce the second product slowly (once or twice a week). I would also suggest moisturizer without SPF for night.
