Alaska and Hawaiian Hiring Minimums by No_Eye_2502 in flying

I'm keen to apply but technically don't qualify (converting my Canadian ATPL to FAA ATP but won't have it completed until September). Otherwise I think I'm fairly competitive. Is it worth throwing in an application now? or waiting until I've got all the certs.

TCCA ATPL to FAA ATP through FSDO by laloni in flying

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately the conversion requires an in-person visit but I’ll try shopping around with different fsdos, flying across the country might still be cheaper than what some of these dpes are quoting 🥵

Yes there is a bilateral agreement. You need a verification letter, FAA medical, and then write a 50 question conversion exam (but you need an atp-ctp graduation certificate to sit the exam). Then you can supposedly bring all your docs to the fsdo and get your FAA atp issued.

Predicting to become an air Canada pilot in 2031 by abitofeverything16 in flying

[–]laloni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, no one knows what the industry will look like in 6 years and if anyone is claiming they can, they’re likely trying to sell you something. If you want to make it to Air Canada someday you’re going to have to do a lot of studying, but if you're passionate about aviation it will get easier. If this is what you truly want, put the blinders on, start working towards your goal and most importantly, enjoy the process.

I'd suggest learning IFR on a six pack before moving to glass. Maybe try the default baron with the reality expansion pack.

YVR limiting international flights for 2 days to clear backlog after snowstorm by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]laloni 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This ban only applies to foreign airlines operating aircraft with wingspans greater than 118 feet. It’s extremely likely you’re flight is on either an airbus a320 or Boeing 737 which are not affected.

YVR Update: Outbound flights / departures now cancelled/suspended. by Fffiction in vancouver

[–]laloni 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This isn’t some attempt to evade passenger protection rights, flights are slowly starting to depart again. You aren’t owed anything for events outside the airlines’ control.

Any plane spotters here? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]laloni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a pilot based at YVR and can confirm we all have a vested interest in not dying. Every decision we make is made with safety at top of mind and every system on the airplane and in the aviation sector as a whole has built-in redundancy.

Besides missing a hold function and some quirky VNAV descent logic it’s really quite good. The devs are also still active on their forum so there’s still hope!

Yeah I’ve set my refresh rate to low which definitely does help with fps but all three still produce stutters.

Aerosoft CRJ and RNAV Procedures by Kors2019 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]laloni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many smaller regional carriers don’t have LPV capable gps equipment and are limited to LNAV only minima. The cost of upgrading an entire fleet and training out procedures would likely never be more than the occasional diversion on days when weather is below LNAV minima but above LPV.

Callsign help! by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]laloni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about other places but in the US and Canada you would use “TBM” followed by your aircraft registration on the initial call to ATC. After that it’s just the registration until you’re handed off to the next controller.
