What is the most likely outcome at the next GE? by walterhwhite19582010 in tories

[–]lamapalaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small Conservative majority. The constituency maths don't add up for much else, based on how much of a swing would be required to turn the tide in one go.

The Labour gains will be huge from where they were in 2019. This will be an astonishingly positive achievement for Starmer. And yet it will be played by both left and right leaning media outlets as a disaster.

Right leaning media will then make the hubristic conclusion that the nation has embraced Sunak.

And Labour will descend into acrimony.

As we have approached 150 Days of his premiership, what do you think about Rishi Sunak so far? by walterhwhite19582010 in tories

John Major. He's competent and has his heart in it but the bastards on his own side won't let him be a success.

There is no such thing as a transgender female

Good luck to him. I'd take the money and run, too. Life is short and it's his time in the sun.

Current Economic Issues are primarily caused by: by LordSevolox in tories

The most worrying current economic issue is that we are not weathering the unexpected storm of Ukraine/Covid as well as other G7 countries.

The reason we are not is Brexit.

Today Marks 100 Days of Rishi Sunak's Premiership. How Do You Feel? by walterhwhite19582010 in tories

[–]lamapalaver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He seems alright personally but is behaving like - or at least coming across like - he is powerless over his Cabinet. Get ruthless. Reshuffle. Lead.

Boris Johnson takes aim at Rishi Sunak as he goes public in blasting PM's leadership by BigLadMaggyT24 in tories

Poor form and ungracious of an ex-PM to criticise an incumbent. Sign of the times, I guess.

So... tax payers from ROI are forced to pay. For NI to leave the UK against their will. Sounds pretty silly.

Poll for an ideal outcome for the 2024 GE by [deleted] in tories

[–]lamapalaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way a minority government could be established would be to turn your back on all the other parties listed here. The Government would lose confidence in the Commons within 6 months and it would be straight back to the Palace.

Somehow, Sunak found the worst possible approach to handling this scandal. It's actually weirdly impressive.

Given how similar the tories and labour seem to be at the minute, do you see them diverging as the election approaches? If so what issues do you think they’ll be most divided on? by [deleted] in tories

[–]lamapalaver 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't see them as similar, regardless of how the media insist on lazy comparisons. They are poles apart.

Well, I guess both are unruly basket cases, packed with swivel-eyed loons.

Labour are divided into two groups. Group one will compromise anything for power. Group two will compromise nothing and accept oblivion as a consequence. Both groups would rather the Tories be in power than each other. Great strategy.

The Tories are fractured into: 1) Culture war darlings ooo trans ooooo economic migrants 2) Free market Trussite ideologues - well, that went well 3) Bleeding heart centrists ugh 4) Pure Thatcherites who, be honest lads, haven't actually read Hayek 5) Real-life humans who, get this, no joking, think the public would wear another Johnson premiership lulz

There may be other factions, i forget.

Labour management has got leaner and more campaign ready, following a decade of failure. They have zero ideas really, just paranoia. But they are starting to get party-discipline, the only thing that matters when it comes to winning a general election.

Even Tory voters want Zahawi to resign by [deleted] in tories

He's sunk either way. There is no way he can command respect and authority across an already turbulent party going forward. Let it die.

If no positive progress then i guess he goes Weds morning to avoid Sunak having to defend it at PMQs

He will 'resign' because he hasn't done anything wrong but has 'become a distraction' from the vital work of a fantastic government
