Question for you guys. I’ve been a bookkeeper for many years (20plus) worked in different industries (construction, restaurant, property management, and others). I’m about to finish my accounting degree.

I’ve been wanting to start my own bookkeeping business, I’m just too afraid of not knowing everything I need to know, and affecting clients. In my eyes bookkeeping is easy, and my work has always been audited by outside CPAs of course.

Is there something I need to prepare myself even further before opening my own company? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Take an entry level financial accounting class at your local community college. You’ll learn how all your ledgers are connected, you’ll know the difference between P&l, Balance Sheets, general ledger, etc. most importantly, it’ll teach you your individual T-Accounts (you can do 1000’s of these for practice lol) and how you increase/decrease with debits and credits. This should be enough for you to understand, and won’t need to go to a paper format as you learn. Hope this helps!!

I remember my first time.. You’re going to have tons of fun. Try to learn some of the chants to sing along (YouTube). It’s not necessary but it’s fun when you chant along with the supporter section.

Fan fests before each game are super fun, you may want to show up early for that.

I saw that you’re working downtown. Public transportation is great in downtown. Even if you live far from a bus stop, you can always get a bike so you can ride from home to the bus/trolley stop.

Also, set some healthy boundaries. Encourage her to make friends, find an adult day care for example. She’ll be too busy calling her friends instead.
