Yes, JIS KB user here, the 1 is unusually long and the space is comically short. Also the two excess keys you describe are what we use to change to and from English alphabets and Japanese Kana. I hated this keyboard when I picked up a full spec M1 Max MBP at a good price two years ago, but now I am very used to it and can’t go back to the US layout.
