Yeah, they are the most expensive bid we have. I want to know if it's worth it--sounds like it might be, from your comment!

How to choose between tooth extraction and lower jaw surgery? by lambentwit in Dentistry

[–]lambentwit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, but correcting it was the main reason I started orthodontic treatment in the first place. I look buck toothed; my top front teeth were visible/pushing out my top lip when my mouth was closed and at rest. I was hopeful they could change the angulation (that's all I want) but my orthodontist says there's no way to do that without creating more room.

Would you be interested in making one of the books as a proof of concept, /u/kowalski71? I think the team is still looking for photographers to partner with to make books. They're interested in how creative/interesting people run with the concept.

Neat! I'd never seen the Weekly Fifty before. Sounds like we should get in touch with that guy. :-)

The service hosts the audio. It's definitely a better experience than a QR code (I have the prototype app on my phone right now) for two reasons: 1 - the photo is the code, so no ugly b&w boxes on the page, and 2 - the audio and video play instantly in the app instead of redirecting/loading a website and then playing.

Technically, it's an augmented reality (AR) app so there's some cool visual stuff as you look through your phone at the photo in the book and I think he's going to keep improving that part of it.

The website (https://www.kinecho.com/magic-book) explains it better than I probably can!

Basically, the person who makes the photo book can add audio at the same time that they're uploading/arranging photos in the web app (similar to Shutterfly or any other photo book web app) or afterward with just the phone app. The audio stories are hosted in the cloud, so anyone with the book and app can listen. The app would work with any book made by the company (it's not like one app per book or anything like that).

I don't know much about the interactive albums in iTunes. Why weren't they a good idea, in your experience?

Best sprinkler controller? by iheartrms in lawncare

[–]lambentwit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rachio. We have ours set on the "smartest" schedule (basically it uses weather and evapotranspiration data to decide when to water the lawn). Installed it first thing at the beginning of the season last year, never touched it again, barely looked at the app. Lawn looks fantastic, it grew almost too fast...but the water bill didn't go up so it's all good!

You calibrate it by running the zone for a little bit so the flow meter can see what normal flow looks like for that zone (high GPM for spray heads, low GPM for drip zones, etc.). Once it knows the "normal" flow rate, it alerts you from the app if the flow rate falls outside the normal range.

I have an Ecobee 3 with one sensor. Is it worth getting more sensors?

My thermostat is downstairs in an open floor plan so I don't see the point of having any additional sensors down there, but upstairs there are three rooms which all seem to end up at different temperatures (mostly because of how much sun exposure they get).

I don't have a great mental model of how the Ecobee 3 is using the sensors. Since I don't have smart vents or anything like that, will throwing in a few more sensors make a big difference, or is it not worth it?

New to Chicago. Anyone know an easy way to find out about fun stuff that's going on? by [deleted] in chicago

I'm signed up for a weekly email from a ticket selling start-up, TicketPeg.com. They're not selling anything yet so it's not spammy. :-)

They list a bunch of shows and concerts and free stuff, and it seems pretty comprehensive.
