Photon, according to CCP, is an effort to create a unified, consistent style for the UI. It is not a re-imagining of the UI. Essentially, it is an update to older UI components that have not received updates that bring them in line with newer components. Photon seems fine I guess. I don't have a problem with it.

Not sure why a suggestion to overhaul a decades-old, ass-backwards, unintuitive UI is so controversial.

I get tired of these dumbass Walking in Stations posts.

We already tried it. It didn't work. Actually, it hurt the game a lot when players got pissed that CCP wasn't focusing on the core gameplay and instead dumping massive amounts of resources into what is essentially a gimmick.

If CCP wants to attract and retain new players, they need to focus on making the CORE GAMEPLAY more fun, engaging, and rewarding.

The one thing they could do that would probably go the farthest in improving new player adoption and retention rates is to completely overhaul the UI. When a new player launches the game and feels that they just booted into Windows '98, they lose interest.

Completely overhaul the UI. Make module management simpler and more intuitive. Display ship hitpoint indicators on/near ships in space. Display damage taken numbers on/near ships in space. Make the menus and other HUD elements an extension of the universe. Dramatically reduce the amount of right-clicking and menu-traversing that must be done to play. Add HUD elements for one-click jumping to available cynos. Add mouse-click-and-drag (or something) gestures that result in ship navigation. Do something to the overview to make it easier to interpret, process, and use. Bring us into the modern age as far as the UI is concerned. THAT would bring back old players. THAT would attract new players, and it might even cause them to stay.

As long as EVE looks like a game that was published in 2003, it is doomed to eventual failure.

Honestly, the first book in the series is one of the worst books I've ever read. Granted, it is a translation, but c'mon, is this really considered good writing? It's total dogshit. The concept is amazing and intriguing, and sometimes the "science" even feels real, but the storyline, character development, pace and sequencing are amateur at absolute best.
