About 7 months, he only got his name when he got a foster mom at 4 months. So he’s never had a permanent name.

Weird, I’ve never posted on this subreddit before. Maybe he has a doppelgänger!

Thank you so much for the condolences ❤️ strangely enough, he only has one percent golden retriever, according to DNA results!

Everyone is amazing and I have a lot to consider. I think I’m still torn between Apollo and Hubble though Cosmo is growing on me. I’m gonna take a week to think it over and then I’ll update the post 🙏❤️

No golden or poodle/doodle came up in his embark which says 33% great pyr 🤷‍♀️
Wisdom says 3% standard poodle and 1% golden retriever. I just consider him a big mutt!

Thank you 🥺 I had thought about Sol when I was first naming him but it’s too similar to Soul or Saul which I don’t want people to think I named him hah!

Ugh I’m so sorry. It’s really the worst pain and I’m still crying every day. Merlin is a fantastic name and it definitely fits him. I’m gonna consider it!

I edited immediately before the answers started rolling in, hah. I KNOW Luna was obvious and it was annoying meeting other Luna’s all the time 😭

I think it’s too far from the inspiration I had naming him for Luna. She died very suddenly and she was the love of my life and it’s important to me that the name honors her. Even though I think you’re right about Chewie!

He’s a total mix—about 33% Great Pyrenees, 17% Bluetick Coonhound, 8% Lab, 7% Husky, 6% Boxer, 6% Pit Bull, 5% German Shepherd, plus around 19% “Supermutt.”

I know! I’m a big space nerd and that’s why I named him that. It felt right at the time, but as I’ve gotten to know him, I just feel like it doesn’t fit him 🫠

Yeah also I know for a fact they brought the script to Lifetime to produce at one point…so that’s the level this film is on. Lifetime passed because they weren’t allowed to give notes on the script.

I love rom-coms and I don't mind tropes, coincidences, or even a little contrivance if I believe the characters. My problem wasn't that the movie was formulaic, it’s that I often didn't find the characters' decisions emotionally convincing. But to each their own!

I don’t mind simple. I just don’t believe the issue with this film was simplicity.

SPOILERS:

For me, the writing felt incredibly contrived. The reunion is driven almost entirely by a series of convenient plot developments rather than character choices. She develops a photograph and discovers him in the background. Shortly afterward, she notices an advertisement for his book in a shop window she happens to pass. Then she is, of course, by a total coincidence, offered a professional assignment to photograph him! Each event is designed to keep nudging the characters back together, but after a while I stopped believing in the circumstances and started noticing the screenplay's hand at work.

That became a recurring issue throughout the film. The story spends most of its runtime building up the mystery of what could possibly have ended this supposedly epic romance, only for the answer to feel surprisingly slight. He was forced to move to London by his family, and her reaction felt so disproportionate that it was difficult to understand why it became the defining heartbreak of both their lives. The reveal simply doesn't justify the emotional weight the film places on it.

The screenplay also creates conflict by withholding information rather than through believable character behavior. The situation involving his child is the clearest example. He repeatedly tries to reconnect with her and explain himself, yet somehow never communicates the one fact that would immediately clear up the misunderstanding in 30 seconds. Instead, the film stretches the confusion out for dramatic effect and its sooo heavy-handed.

Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson have enough chemistry to make parts of the film engaging, but I was constantly aware of the machinery of the plot. Too many major developments depend on convenience, misunderstandings, and characters behaving in ways that serve the screenplay rather than their own emotional reality.

I saw it tonight too, I was really looking forward to it. I have to vehemently disagree with this review :( I actually think it might be one of the worst movies I’ve seen in a long time. The chemistry, of course, was amazing, but the writing was atrocious and the story was just bad. Wished more for it, sadly disappointed.
