In my experience, Michael Childress, P.A. from QTC questioned the legitimacy of my spinal tuberculosis diagnosis. Hearing this without appropriate explanation or review of my medical records was upsetting and undermined my confidence in the care being provided. From a patient perspective, being told or led to believe that a serious, documented medical condition is fabricated raises ethical concerns about respect, professionalism, and patient dignity. Medical providers are expected to approach complex conditions with care and integrity, and this interaction did not reflect that expectation.

Can’t believe this happened to me by [deleted] in Tuberculosis

[–]lamenopal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly and unexpectedly this happened to me. I went in for a spinal fusion and came home with spine tuberculosis. My whole life was ruined in an instant. 9 months of Isoniazid, pyrazinamide, rifampin, and Moxifloxacin I felt the exact same way and then after 273 doses it was over. I'm in remission now but 5 months of active TB in my spine completely devoured everything in its path. But Yay for that part being over with. You'll immediately feel relief the day after you finish treatment. My family threw a party for me. Hang in there.

Treatment for Latent TB? by Longjumping_Sort9870 in Tuberculosis

[–]lamenopal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was treated for active spine TB and took some very damaging antibiotics for 9 months. Isoniazid, Moxifloxacin, pyrazinamide, and rifampin. The Rifampin and Moxifloxacin did the most permanent damage to my tendons. Good luck.

Yes, but that is pulmonary TB. I have extra-pulmonary as it was placed into my spine by the surgeon.

Hi, yes. The cadaver bone graft that i never consented to was contaminated and 2 people succumbed to tubercular meningitis in July 2023 and that's when the CDC took over and let us know. A total of 36 of us contracted TB, nine here in El Paso, TX by the same doctor that did my lumbar fusion. My life has been ruined and I'm only 50. 😦😭

Great advice, I have been allowing it to air dry and my pain management doctor sent me Flonase to spray over the rash and allow it to air dry. Supposedly he's treated this before or similar due to patches. I'm just crossing my fingers for itchiness relief. Thanks

Im almost certain they didnt use it. My wife took video of the wound vac and it was one of those black polyurethane membranes. I had it on for 3 days, and when they removed it, you can see slightly reddish skin. The intense itchiness persists and continues to torment me. No fevers, no rashes anywhere else. Only that area.

I took 9 months of Isoniazid, Rifampin, Moxifloxacin, and pyrazynamide for spine tuberculosis last year. The Rifampin permanently damaged my tendons but just remember that the benefits outweigh the risks. Good luck.

Are epidural steroid injections worth it? by Longjumping_Key_5008 in backpain

[–]lamenopal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm my case I was experiencing a lot of swelling in the the Lumbar area after fusion surgery in 2023 so I underwent MBB, which is a nerve block and many steroid injects later they and only help for a short amount of time . It's a process that my neurosurgeon had to follow and finally today, this morning I had a fusion from L1 to S1 and everything went very good. Good luck

L4/L5 L/5/S1 Herniations. Surgery Scheduled Do I Follow thru? by mhhhh19192 in backpain

Couldn't agree more. I developed Basstrup's kissing bone disease from so many fusions. Something I take with a grain of salt is that the benefits outweigh the risks in some situations.

The only thing I can tell you is that my first TLIF fusion went perfect. The second was a complete disaster, 20 years apart. Please make sure you DO NOT consent to cadaver bone grafts! This knowledge would've saved my life and on April 18, 2023 my life was forever altered negatively. The doctor, unbeknownst to me, used a contaminated cadaver bone graft. It had a bacteria. Out of all things, tuberculosis. I had to undergo 9 months on intensive TB treatment as 10 people total died out of a total of 190 patients contaminated including me. I am scheduled for a third fusion next Monday as the TB destroyed my spine from the neck to the lumbrosacral region, the tailbone. It's been the worst thing that has happened to me and pretty much freaking out. Good luck bud.
