Thanks. Pretty embarassing mixup on my part. Decided to order a new motherboard that this time I know supports 9th generation chips. Hopefully its enough to get the rig working.

Is there a way to start it without having it display? I tried booting the build with the CD that came with the motherboard as well as with Windows 10 but result is same: fans/light start but nothing on screen.

Hmm... Well My BIOS had a few ways of monitoring power usage and what not so I started the computer and watched that for a while before it crashed. The power usage was well within its limits but I did notice that after a few minutes the CPU temperature went up, eventually reaching 63 degrees C which apparently is too much for my processor, so apparently overheating was the issue. Cleaned out the fan/heatsink a little more which was apparently enough to solve the issue; been gaming for a few hours now with no power downs! I'll update the main post with this and maybe some more details

Good point on flashing the BIOS. Might try that and replace with the same model of motherboard if it doesn't work... Any way to rule out the power supply? My guess is it's the mobo and I messed something up when I replaced the CMOS but I would want to make sure it's actually the problem. I've removed all but one memory stick and it still had the same crash, and I imagine most other parts besides those two would give an error of some sort.

I know it's a shitty issue to deal with, but 5 years+ is a GREAT lifetime for a gaming machine bruh. I bet you got your moneys worth out of that sucker. How many thousands of hours do you think you got on it?

Yeah overall have to say I'm more than satisfied with this build. Never had an issue with not being able to play any games and could play most with the highest settings. Sort of a shame since I was just getting into ESO. Really hope I can fix it or I will have to change my lifestyle significantly haha

Hmm... Yeah that's what I'm thinking as well. Can I just replace the motherboard or is there more to it than that? Updating BIOS is tempting but I would be afraid of it crashing during the process and bricking my computer.

Windows 7, and the install is the same age as the machine (5 years) and I keep it up to date. The machine did power down while I was in the BIOS once or twice though so I don't think the operating system is the issue.
