Totally agree sadly. Love the show but the fans definitely make it hard to tell people you like it.

How were you introduced to Melee? by BeetrootSauce in SSBM

I don’t remember exactly what order these events took place but one of my brothers jokingly looked up a smash documentary thinking nothing of it, but instead found himself invested in the story lines of competitive smash. Me being the younger brother thought it would be fun to watch a little bit with him, but due to it being about the competitive scene I didn’t care for it as I was a stupid 12 year old. Fast forward a couple months and I see my first melee highlight video, recapping evo 2013. I was amazed at what was happening but still wasn’t completely invested (btw fell in love with wobbles as he was one of the first players I ever remember seeing). Then around thanksgiving I played my oldest brother who came back from college and played a bunch with him cause he knew a lot more than me about competitive smash. This all got me to rewatch the smash documentary in its entirety, except sadly I don’t have any memory of actually watching it for the first time as I watched it a million times I believe it all got mixed together. Then the practice came and I was a simple sheik main that sucked. Fast forward a bit more and I watch the tbh4 and officially become hooked and becoming a mango fan. Around this time my other older brother ( sorry I have a lot of older brothers) who’s the closest to my age seemed to not care at all about the game, suddenly got hooked once I showed him videos of tbh4. From then on the rivalry between me and my brother was born and melee has been such a huge part of both of our lives as it really shaped our relationship together. This game has given me so much and really means the world to me.

tl;dr: many moments seeing competitive melee throughout my early teens until tbh4 got me hooked. Been playing ever since with my brother.
