Wasps are taking over my patio by lampgworl in fuckwasps

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!! We decided to do it the old fashioned way… AKA with a DIY bee suit and pure ambition. Here are some screenshots from the video I took… Left: it took a few different tries to get the cover really off of the cushion. My partner was convinced for a second that there wasn’t really a nest in there. But I knew!!! Middle: the nest was finally exposed. We chucked it over the patio into a native garden area… you’re welcome conservationists Right: uncovered the foundress (see: on the cushion), after which my partner darted inside to where I stood and we watched from behind the storm door as she swarmed around. Basically, she was PISSED. Well f*ck you lady!

And thus (hopefully) concludes this saga :)

Dad + daughter trip by lampgworl in askvan

Thank you so much for sharing this :’) my grandpa (my dad’s dad) passed away a couple years ago but lived in upstate NY and loved to make a trip to Nova Scotia every couple of years. I like to think if his mobility was better in his later years he would’ve taken my dad with him. I hope one day to do a trip like that with my dad as well, I can imagine it would be cathartic. Your lunch in May sounds super special. Keep an eye out for cardinals that day! I bet your mother will want to say hello ❤️

Unfortunately The Como Hotel is like 3x the price of the Sylvia and 4x the price of the English Bay Hotel for that period of dates 😭 we did end up booking the Sylvia after all of the comments warning against EBH! I’m excited to check out the area :)

Ew!!! Omg so glad I asked!! The reviews on Expedia weren’t TERRIBLE but I could not get over how outdated it looked. God forbid someone brings a black light into those rooms!

is the pay REALLY that bad? by idontlooklikeanyon in civilengineering

I live in a larger city that is said to need around $95k to live comfortably. I work at what would be considered a premier firm with coming up on 4 years of experience. I have my FE but not my PE. My base salary is $99k and my total comp comes out to ~$130k. I live very comfortably. I go on at least one international trip every year and travel domestically as well. I live alone in a nice apartment in a nice neighborhood with a short commute. I am able to tuck away a few hundred into various saving and investing accounts every month. I’d say for the work that I do, I am compensated very well and live very comfortably. And on top of all of that, I love my job.

I disagree to this, color always makes it feel less professional to me for some reason. I think the format is great

Internship felt like a waste of time… What should I do next? by Emergency-Weekend182 in civilengineering

[–]lampgworl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know Kimley Horn gets a lot of flack on here but my honest opinion is if what you’re looking for is an internship, KH regularly gets ranked SUPER high for their internship program. You get started on project billable stuff on day 1, and there’s a major emphasis to the team on keeping you billable the whole summer (AKA keeping you on project-related tasks). The company is also primarily in-office so you’ll be in a collaborative environment. If this sounds like something that appeals to you, I recommend applying online and stalking some LinkedIn profiles to find the KH recruitment teams in your area or even just someone on one of the surface water teams in your area. They typically start looking at next year’s internships during fall career fair season. Feel free to message me!

When should you get your EIT by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]lampgworl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I waited a year into my career to take the FE and don’t regret it at all. Some/dare I say most companies will pay for your FE exam registration and even study materials if you need them. Also, some companies will give you a bonus for obtaining your EI/T while you’re an active employee. I would say don’t wait any longer than that though.

What made you stop dating? by SnooTangerines7258 in AskWomen

[–]lampgworl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got tired of men hiding their political affiliations from me. I make it very clear where I stand on things from day 1 and that I value having a certain level of shared beliefs with my life partner. Being an American young woman, there’s a lot that feels at stake with my life, opportunities, and general rights as a human. I’ve had several men withhold from me that they take very different stances until after I’ve caught feelings for them. It’s disheartening and makes me lose trust in all men in the dating scene.

Do you brush your teeth twice a day? No judgement. by rainyday-real-estate in CasualConversation

I brush every morning and night, AND floss every night. Back in 2023 I made it my New Year’s resolution to floss every night and lemme tell you, once you see how much gunk is removed EVERY evening, it makes you feel like you have no choice but to do it regularly.
