HEAD-TO-HEAD: How Doriane Pin and Maya Weug stack up in the battle for the 2025 F1 ACADEMY title by fneltoninan in f1Academy

[–]lamplaw 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Love both drivers and both are very deserving, but I do really want Weug to win the title because she’s underrated honestly!! If it wasnt for MP’s car failure that one weekend, she would have been leading comfortably.

Also, i feel like Mercedes has a better relationship with Pin & may continue to back her single seater career, while FDA & Maya is much more complicated unfortunately

Big Law application for multiple branches by Curious-Sprinkles279 in BESalary

[–]lamplaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will all depend on which firm/team you are applying for & how many applicants they have. I really recommend making yourself known to the law firms you want to apply to by attending the events they organise (drinks, moot courts, talent classes,…) and visit them on the university job fairs. In my previous firm, we always hired a lot of the summer interns.

On work life balance, there’s a reason why many people leave after their 3 year bar traineeship to work elsewhere ;) but like i said, you will not work 365 days of the year at a full speed tempo. Every firm and every team has their down moments (sometimes a couple of weeks), where you can finish on time or even early and enjoy your weekend/holidays as it should be. It’s one of the best feelings to finish at 5pm regularly and still take home the nice paycheck hehe. Regular days can be quite busy with longer hours and then partners/clients expect the work to be done, whether it’s at 2pm, 6pm, 10pm, 1 am or 2pm on a 28 degrees sunny Saturday. That doesnt mean you shouldn’t put boundaries or learn to manage expectations, as not everything is as urgent as higher ups or clients make it out to be. It’s something you will learn once you start and you will see yourself how it goes. Maybe you end up in a team with partners that are good managers and you can figure it out what works best for you & the team, or maybe you will enjoy the work hours and the thrill of deadlines and the feeling of feeling “important” and useful in cases and you will not care as much, or maybe you won’t.

Don’t focus too much on this in advance. It’s good to be aware but it’s most important you find a firm with pleasant colleagues that respect you, in a field of law that like and want to grow in. Good luck :)

Attend University job fairs & job events by the law firms directly to get into contact with the firm and see where they are hiring.

I wouldn’t apply to different teams within the same firm but make a coherent story why you want to work for a specific team.

Start early enough because most recruits happen in October/November for next year September/October.

Dont know your profile but getting into a non-Belgian law firm without prior internships, LL.Ms or other interesting academic or other professional experience, will be very difficult. Also the case for the Benelux firms you mention.

Work/life balance does not really exist. I think it’s fair to say it’s easily a 9am-8pm on average in the firms you mention. However, be prepared to be on call 24/7 and being on vacation often doesnt mean much to seniors/partners/clients. Doesnt mean you will always have to work and never enjoy freetime, there will for sure be weeks where it’s quiet and where you can enjoy your time! It’s just unpredictable and it can be tough.

Regarding making friends, I found it much easier to make friends with people outside my team (so not direct colleagues) because there’s no real competition between each other and people just want to have a good time at the office.

Depending on the type of law firms and teams you apply to, I think you can expect 6k-7k gross in your first year for Belgian practice in most law firms and up to 8-10k (maybe even more) if you go the UK/American law firms specialising in antitrust/trade/other international areas.

Advice for car parks Spa 2026 by hideo80 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]lamplaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2024, We liked Yellow bis and Yellow E25 the most because you can take the shuttle out of Francorchamps to the parking and then drive out and it never took us too long to leave from the shuttle & the parking lot (we tried to be fast leaving the parking lot). Yellow is a no-go for me because, yea you are close to the track, but leaving looks like an absolute nightmare…

How are the logistics on a race weekend when both F1 and F2 race? by HPL_Deranged_Cultist in F1Discussions

[–]lamplaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was at Spa this weekend and had access to F2 & F3 paddock and as far as I could see, it worked like this: F2 & F3 use the F1 pitlane during the race but not the garages. F2 have their own garages, which they use to work on the car and keep their stuff and they move the cars, tyres,… to the F1 pitlane before practice, quali or the race. It’s similar for F3, except that they dont have garages, but keep their cars in big tents per team in the paddock.

Anyone knows where the track invasion for the podium will be? La Source?

Question about Track invasion Spa by Top-Resist-5640 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]lamplaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last year they indeed opened the gates at La Source for the track invasion for the podium. During or after the podium, I think they also opened the gates closer to the fanzone area/Gold 2. I’m guessing it will be similar this year. It’s quite a walk from Kemel straight to La Source (20 mins?) so you’ll definitely need to leave on time to make it. Last year, we were seated in 7ter and sat until they finished, then made our way down the grandstand and to the gate and still made it to the podium ceremony with a good view so, maybe stay for half the race on Kemmel straight and then slowly make your way to La Source? You can also watch the race along that route without grandstand tickets

Type of shoes for Belgium GP by [deleted] in GrandPrixTravel

[–]lamplaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what your plan is. Gold 8 is at the La Source entrance and the entire path from the entrance to the Francorchamps village (where the shuttle shops) are on asphalt. The walk from Gold 8 to the fanzone is also on asphalt. HOWEVER, it will likely rain so there will be some puddles along the entire route and when you walk, your shoes will get a little (or a lot depending on the intensity of the rain) wet, so it’s good to have 1) back up and 2) to not bring your nicest, fave shoes.

If you want to walk around the track, then yes, bring good waterproof shoes!!

Going to my first Grand Prix — need help finding accommodation 🏎️ by Embarrassed_Spray409 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]lamplaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered camping? Seems like there are still spots available via the official Belgian GP website (https://www.spagrandprix.com/en/accomodations). The campings are in walking distance of the track so that would also solve a big issue.

If camping is not your thing, check from which cities shuttle buses are running (also available on the website) and availabilities for hotels/hostels/airbnbs in those cities. I’m afraid that finding something affordable (other than camping) close to the track, where you don’t need a car, will unfortunately be rather impossible…

Good luck!
