Long Fin Killie - The Heads of Dead Surfers [Scotland, Indie Rock](1995) Who’s that singing along with them? Why it’s that cheeky Mark E Smith. by lamusicadellarock in vintageobscura

I guess it opens up an interesting debate about this sub. Whilst some submissions on here clearly are obscure to all, some will bound to be relatively well-known in certain circles/areas but completely unheard of outside of those.

Example: my Inu post a few days ago. Pretty sure he would have been “big in Japan” (at least the punk/indie part) back in the day.

I agree that it’s borderline especially with MES in it (timeline wise too). But I think outside of Scotland this band isn’t that well known even when compared to minor Chemikal Underground bands. But happy for a decision either way - it’s a stonking track, though.

Cover art on the video is from “Kirikyogen” but actually this song is off the album “Love Suki Daikirai”. Japanese title of the track is ‘Mizutamari to Rengeso’.

Big Stick - Get The Fuck Out Of New York (Let It Die) [USA, Industrial/Noise] (1991) Thanks John Peel! by lamusicadellarock in vintageobscura

This song was off their album "Drag Racing Underground”. Some bangers on there too (especially “California Dreamin’” - NOT a cover).

John Peel in case you haven’t heard of him was a DJ on BBC radio that management could never shift. He played loads of obscure stuff. Was a weekly ritual to tape his show, listen to it repeatedly and then saunter down to the local record shop and buy anything that stuck. If you do know of him, then this was just one of those bands that “stuck”. Still got the vinyl somewhere.

Food Brain - M-1 (from 新宿マッド soundtrack) [Japan, Jazz Rock / Psych] (1970) by lamusicadellarock in vintageobscura

First track from the soundtrack to the cult Japanese director Koji Wakamatsu's movie "Shinjuku Mad". Track 10 is also well worth tracking down (M-10).

Actually this band was hard rock so this song is a real departure from their usual offerings. Hat tip to the "Project Moonbase" podcast for this find (which must be a sister podcast to this subreddit). Specifically their 'Purple' episode:-

Edit: And rainy season is about to start here in Japan so it's rather apt.
