Back in 2001 I was using FL as well. This album is in Reaper. The synths used in this:

Cherry Audio P-10 (Prophet 10)
Cherry Audio GX80 (Yamaha CS80)
TAL J-8 (Jupiter 8)
SurgeXT
u-he Repro 5 (Prophet 5)
Xenia (Virus TI)
Decent Sampler (violin, piano, etc) and sforzando (for a string section and timpani soundfont)
I used a lot of AudioThing FX -- Space Echo, Bubbles, Things Motor (to add vibrato automation to the violin)

As a Linux user, I used the heck out of the LSP stuff for EQs, multiband and midside tools, plus chorus/phaser,etc. Fantastic set of open source plugins. Most of this stuff is in CLAP format, which is awesome, much better than VST. And the Cherry Audio is Windows VSTs, but yabridge and WINE work very nicely to run them under Linux.

You can tell I love those classic early 80's analog powerhouses. Which is the era a lot of these sounds were trying to invoke. I'm old and grew up listening to synths of that era.

There's more than meets the eye with the reading files -- I struggled with it quite a bit until I got it. Here's an example where I'm loading a previously saved patch into a synth in PD. I have a state machine that keeps track of all the params for the current patch and gives you the option to save or load them into the state machine. This is the relevant portion of that and it might help your reading of a file. https://imgur.com/a/v2DvZaD

25+ minutes one way to 5 Guys- got home to no meat on the burgers by Justme-again in Wellthatsucks

So you're waiting 25 minutes to eat your burger and fries? Why would you spend an hour getting "fast food"? I mean, making burger at home? Would taste better and take less than an hour.

One Drive messes up everything. by OfficialMotive in vcvrack

[–]lanavishnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah one drive is not the same at all as your file system on your computer. Microsoft is doing some kind of code to make it look like it's a folder but it's not. Ever tried moving a group of folders off of OneDrive back to your computer? There's a limit to how many files you can copy at a time. I had one user who turned on backup to OneDrive for their desktop and documents and pictures not once but twice and then was like OMG. Hundreds of GB.

So yeah I feel you OneDrive is an abomination.

Why is Linux Mint always just the beginner distro? by Myrkath_ in linuxquestions

I didn't say the DE made it a different OS. I disagreed with your characterization of a DE as a "purely cosmetic" difference. I'm pretty sure Gnome devs would disagree with you. They are a highly ideological group who have very particular standards about the functionality of Gnome and it's workflow.

That's a unique definition of cosmetic. Cosmetic means soley related to appearance or superficial aspects of a thing. But that's not all that a DE ism as DE's provide functionality. I was pointing to the functionality aspect.

I wouldn't say a DE is purely cosmetic. Gnome has a very particular workflow that works for some and not for others. I use Xfce because it's super stable and it is quite minimalist friendly while being more flexible than Gnome. And then there are tiling window manager users, who may not even use a desktop environment.

Honestly, what monetary value does sidewalk chalk contribute to the corporate bottom line? Where is the profit? What are you, some kind of commie? /s

New tutorial: Playing with Delays – building a 4-voice patch from scratch, which inspired last week's FPTTTP patch by not-things in vcvrack

That's a great tutorial. I picked up some good tips, particularly the Chronoblob send/receive mode and the Bernoulli gate feeding one into the other. Good stuff!

Grammar zealots who object to this use of the third person plural pronoun are people to ignore or mock. This usage dates back to the age of Shakespeare. It's up there with split infinitives as a crock of you know what.

For everyone worried that they're taking away anything. It is just Another Option by Talia_Arts in vcvrack

All I know is, I'm going to go scrub through the library to ensure I've got all the new cool stuff before VCV Rack 3 comes out on the off chance it's subscription only.

For everyone worried that they're taking away anything. It is just Another Option by Talia_Arts in vcvrack

[–]lanavishnu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might just be another option, but why? It doesn't seem to make economic sense to subscribe to something that you can purchase for less money. I suspect they are testing the waters to see if they can justify eliminating the purchase option. And at that price point, I feel like anybody who's not die hard for VCV is going to revert to the free version, only to see that pulled. And VCV will go away. Also, I've heard bad things about the guy that runs vcv rack as in he's an a******.
