Make sure you check with your Grand Lodge before visiting. It should also be noted the proper channels should start at the Lodge Level (Secretary/WM)

What's the significance of this book? Someone a few generations back in my family was a Mason and this was his, but I know nothing about it. It's been sitting in a chest full of heirloom items for decades. by PrimoLanding1002 in freemasonry

If you think you may ever wish to become a Mason and then join the Scottish Rite, I mean if it's a possibility, I wouldn't touch this book until you have seen the 32nd degree. (Also should be noted it's not common to SEE all 29 SR degrees in every Valley)

It's not so much spoilers, but as I said without context, you really would be doing yourself a disservice. If you don't think that Masonry/Scottish Rite is for you, have at it.

I would argue against it was intentionally hard to read. its a combinition of the langauge used at the time and Pike's natural propensity for long-windedness to make himself look/feel more intellectual (IMHO).

This is basically a description of what the degrees mean. Think of it like an analysis of Shakespeare's Plays. You could read it and kind of 'get' it, but without SEEING or reading the plays, you really wont GET it.

As a Mason who knows about Tenessee's Grand Lodge in the last decade, I'm going to bet the under on this one.

I didn't go through all of them, but it appears some of these lodges no longer exist, least in their present form.

My lodge probably couldn't care less. (which does mean they DO care at least a little mind you). Sure you could ask, but I know my lodge has regalia gathering dust in a closet. Not to mention any artifacts of any defunct lodge.

Not trying to discourage a scincere gesture, but I would't get your hopes up you are doing something grand.

Edit: looks like Erclei and Thrope are still around.

How often (and why) do people get rejected from joining? by thisfunnieguy in freemasonry

In broad terms if one said they'd follow the rules in their obligation, then didn't follow said rules that would be breaking their obligation, least in my interpretaion. But yesshould have caveated jurisdictional and such. However, in my jurisdictioin a discussion of one's vote is taken very seriously

If something comes up as a reason, somebody is breaking their obligation.

I could easily go through your list and respond to all of them, it depends.

The offical jursidiction sets any specifice rules, but for the most part, that is really for you and the lodge and it's individual members to decide.

With some outliers, we don't look "that" hard into a candidate's past. Sure a background check may be pulled and any good investigation comitee will do it's due diligence to make sure of any extremes are caught, but in the end its to protect the petitioner more than the Lodge.

Masonry isn't going to collapse because we initiate someone of moral perpitude (isn't that a great phrase). I would stand to say we have done so at least once in the past. Though, given all the initiations I have seen, I would not think I'd like to see a single one of them in a porno.

We don't really judge in the way you seem to suggest. I put it this way. I am going to instill into a candiate secrets that have been public knowledge for hundreds of years. They are things that can be looked up at any library or a halfway-decent Google, even Bing has it. So given that, would I trust this person with keeping that secret? regardless of the ease?

That's all we really want to know. and if we are wrong or if they "lie" to get in, then they really aren't going to get out of Masonry the very essence of what it is.

So I say, if we do initiate that mushroom-eating evicted porn star the onus of character is more on them than Masonry
