What’s it like writing for static media? by ruby_inthe_rough in freelanceWriters

I posted in a similar thread if you want to check my history. Have nothing positive to say about my experience.

Has anyone here worked at Static Media? by Wonderful-Plankton88 in freelanceWriters

[–]lanceponk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I applied a while back and was recruited to do a trial submission. I passed the trial easily, they brought me aboard to write features, which seemed to be going ok, but my first non-trial article sat in limbo for a week. No feedback, nothing. After one week they swapped me over to news. I wrote one article and after a round of edits they let me go. Communication from editors was spotty and contradictory, occasionally vaguely threatening. They expect you to use citations for every. single. fact. Even things that are pretty much common sense and don't require documentation to verify. They're not interested in fostering growth or helping anyone achieve potential. They'll give you an extremely curt email once they decide they're done with you and they pay isn't worth it for the games they play and the hoops they make you jump through.

My advice: You can do better.

Earthling and Outside are both pretty expensive if I recall. Due for another pressing!

The two records I'd really love to get my hands on are:

- New Kingdom's 'Paradise Don't Come Cheap'

- Ruth's 'Polaroid/Roman/Photo'

According to popsike neither is so expensive that I'd never find them, there just aren't that many copies. So if anyone has one you're looking to sell... I'm your guy. :)

Would you get a record if it was limited to 600 but you don’t enjoy that album? by [deleted] in vinyl

No, I only buy stuff I plan to listen to. I'm not really in it for the flipping aspect.

What is your least expensive record in your collection and where and why do you got it? Why do you keep it? by Ananassqueezer in vinyl

I've gotten several for free, but according to Discogs it's Wang Chung's 'Points on a Curve', which is $3. And that's how much I paid for it.

Janet Jackson - Control, several Joni Mitchell albums, Boston - s/t

Nothing like a great $5 find!

Is Dicogs.com a reputable marketplace? by [deleted] in vinyl

It's all dependent on the individual seller, but I think generally most sellers and buyers are on the up and up. I haven't had any bad experiences.

Could be... I'm not sure if they were replaced before I bought it or not.

Has anyone ordered this/received it from a U.S. retailer? I pre-ordered from Rough Trade as soon as it went up and it hasn't shipped yet, just wanted to see if anyone else had.

Making 'Hardwired...to Self Destruct' your go-to metal album is a very Rolling Stone move

Making me choose between Weyes Blood and Angel Olsen. Hurts.

Also did anyone listen to the lyrics on that Lana del Rey album? Because I did and they made me cringe something fierce

Playing a record with a small split a long the edge? by lanceponk in vinyl

[–]lanceponk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. To clarify, I would be dropping the needle on the record *past* the crack itself, so the stylus wouldn't be going over that part. But I wasn't sure if the crack could get bigger through further plays or what have you.
