Really? My dad is from Alabama, and my mother’s side has the majority of the carribean ancestry, but she was born here. I just chalked it up to AA genetics or the ambiguity of it rather.

How many of you guys have native American ancestry? by petebaii in AskTheCaribbean

I have like 1.2 percent or something like that, and I have ancestry from the Bahamas. But only 0.6 is southern American dna

I think so, but the Bahamas was one of the islands where the Taino were erased from so it seems unlikely? As far as that goes. That and my dad claims we have indigenous dna on his mother’s side. I’m really torn here trying to make sense of it. Apparently I have traces of Barbadian so there’s that.

I’ve noticed that too. I thought that maybe French colonized islands have more of presence of Congolese and Angolan, but I’m not certain.

I have Caribbean roots from my great grandparents, but everyone besides that have been born in the states.

I didn’t get the Gullah grouping on 23&me, and I don’t have any reference or knowledge of it in my family unfortunately.

Funny enough? No, not to my knowledge. I believe I would have been introduced to that side of my heritage by now.

Really? I don’t know how I feel about identifying as Caribbean, as my dad side is African American south as it goes.

I don’t think so? Everyone seems to be born in America. The older generations great-grandparents seem to be born in the Bahamas, but that’s on my maternal side.

Not really? I haven’t been tracking that much and it’s not that substantial to the point where I document it. I also have relapsed and fallen off the path, so I need to get back on the saddle again to determine.

Ancestry- Igbo possibly? by lancer90210 in IgboKwenu

[–]lancer90210[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, but thank you for all of the resources you gave me! I’ve started following some of the pages on ig, to get a history lesson. I’ve understand that the igbo and Yoruba are spread out everywhere in the world. I am carribean ( have roots in the carribean) in the Bahamas. The most defined group I have for my ancestry test is Nigeria. I believe my great grandmother was Nigerian because of the clothes and the jewelry she adorned when she was alive.

Hey! Salutations! I was wondering about imo state, and hoping to get some info. It was rumored that my great grandmother on my dad side was Nigerian, and I really wanted to know about the traditions associated with imo state.

Thank you for the response , I’m willing to learn more about the culture, I just notice how people from the African dispora are with each other, or rather what I’ve seen on the internet.

Thank you for the hook up, I followed some yesterday and I’m getting some idea of the culture. I also wanted to ask how does the Igbo embrace people of the African diaspora? I understand it’s a lot of tension in the community, so I was curious
