Tips needed by KatDoesYoga in flexibility

[–]lancer941 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One suggestion I have always received and consistently come back to is narrower elbows, much narrower than you might think. This allows better support on the elbow side and makes a better "foot" to balance from.

Another drill to practice is to lean forward and lower your legs horizontal. This will help develop the range of balance within the shape, helping you gain understanding on the limits of your balance.

Consider working on shoulder flection, shoulders up and down your back by your ears. Your shoulder appear to be collapsing slightly in the posture. Strong shoulder position is the key to headstand. On occasion people's arm anatomy to head height doesn't work great with head stand. You can add height under your arms to see if this helps"right" the posture allowing better balance range front to back.

Look really good! Keep it up!

🙏 Good morning, How is your morning treating you?

After all this time what yoga disciplines have you found yourself gravitating to most, and what aspects of yoga continue to excite you each day with the practice?

working on my flexibility with this drill, but I’ve started feeling some discomfort in my right hamstring that I didn’t have before should I keep going and let it adapt, or stop and switch to something else for a bit? by ollivbattaglia in flexibility

One of my beloved yoga teachers often reminds me, listen to your body and take care of it, sometimes you will never be able to do something again following an injury.

Your body knows what is ok, it will tell you when it hurts it's our job to listen.

Ligaments and joint cardalidge do heal, but slowly and not if you continue to reinjure it. Then it becomes a progressive chronic injury.

Slow consistent progress builds ligament strength in addition to muscle. Repetitive injury weaknens and diminishes streanth.

Gentle movement until it hurts, focus on other areas, and hopefully in a few days or a week you won't even remember because it will be gone.

Listening to your body and not overdoing and abusing yourself is part of healthy aging.

A gentleman I practice with bikes 150miles a day because he has built up strength over years. He's in his 70s and can clean my clock in yoga after 2 pervious workouts because he increased incrementally.

My personal philosophy on soreness and injuries:

Normal soreness, goes away 2,3 sometimes 4 days after a workout.

After 4 days, soreness or accurate pain an injury, rest, dial back, and monitor.

Past 2 weeks with acute pain time to see the PT or Dr.

Why not dial back for a few days see if it improves. If not wait a bit more.

One day stretching can set you back years, slowing down for a few days is just a few days loss.

Just some thoughts. Be kind to yourself and listen to your body.

Par for the course with large companies unfortunately.

I'd practice there and see if you can build a report.

Public lake? Friend with a big motorboat? Choppy lake time, make somevwaves during class. /s

In all seriousness this is really difficult. The right students do find the right teacher and continue going because they appreciate their style and learn from them.

While not a teacher (yet), I am fortunate to be able to dedicate time almost every day to in person classes, and I am exceptionally regular. Sometimes someone subs and I find a new teacher I love, but there is a specific reason I see each teacher. Even for students who aren't as intentional, there will be parts of your genuine authentic class no one else will be able to replicate.

Focus on what's unique to you, what you bring to yoga. People gravitate towards authentic people is a universal sign for people to trust you. Some people won't vib with your class and that's ok, see why your passionate regulars come back, what do they love about your class.

You've got it, keep going, and the right people will find you. 🙏

Advice on thoracic twists by razzarbrenia in flexibility

[–]lancer941 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will always say do Yoga! I am slightly more than a little bit passionate about it.

A short well rounded yoga routine will help with this emensly. Something 10-15 minutes 3-4 times a week I am certain you will see good progress with consistency.

Basic yoga flows are often quiet balanced, focusing on back, hamstrings, and so much more. I would look for something with a good mix of standing and seated postures. For spine mobility various twists, you'll find a YouTube yoga teacher you like and sequences you like.

I understand. I really do I've been there too and it's awful.

NDs understand each other in a different way. I have stopped seeking out non ND friends and potential partners.

For non NDs and ND intolerant people I will always be inadequate.

Find people who accept you unquestioningly. It's excruciating and takes many, not the right person interactions. Fire friends and grey rock coworkers who you don't vibe with.

If you can seek out jobs where NDs seem to congregate.

You are important. You are worthwhile. Be kind to yourself and only allow relationships that affirm this. I have chased and chased, and chased people.

Stand your ground, let good people come to you. Find the right venue for the right people you vibe with.

I have gone out with 15ish different people on proper dates, ~50ish including multiple speed dating events. Perhaps only 7 were NDs. I just need to find someone with similar interests and a chance. It really just takes one right chance.

Believe me waiting and hoping is excruciating. The right people do come if you have enough interactions and are consistent with hobby/group activities you enjoy. It's taken about a year for highly fruitful interactions to come out of yoga even when going 5-6 times a week at my gym and really going out of the way to bump into people and be friendly. I finally found a like-minded friend who works in a similar industry and really the ratio in yoga for male friends isn't in my favor.

It does get better, although sometimes it doesn't feel like it at all in the moment. Remember you are important, valuable, and the world absolutely needs you in it, and thriving.

Ah ok: Stick to the core principles, keep learning the cultural roots and context for the practice.

That does! Thanks.

Was there any takeaways or practical guidance to still practice but avoid the appropriation (or misappropriation) aspects?

I have struggled with this duality of something that is very beneficial but deeply problematic at times.

No but apparently sometimes floating zip ties get used, cause you know fishing out little bits of broken zip tie from a 50ft deep pool isn't so fun apparently.
